The door speakers in my truck are blown. I was wondering what the best way to get the door panals off are, i couldnt find any screws, so im guessin theres tabs on the inside. There bound to be brittle(22 year old truck) so whats the best way to get them off with out breakin them? Also what would some good speakers that would sound good but also cheap?

Ahhh, those things are a b*tch. It's a sort of christmas tree looking thing that's difficult to describe. They make tools for removing them but in the end they seem to be pretty much single use fastners. There's no easy way to get them off, you just need to pry them out. The tools sold for it *are* uesful because they're slotted so that as you pry the fastener out you don't break off the tabs on the backside of the door panel. Once the tabs are gone that particular mounting point is toasted. Personally, to me, it's worth the $10 or so that the tool costs. Harbor Freight actuall has a set of them for something like $12 and I've been meaning to pick it up because my babysitter keeps asking me to replace HER door-speakers. Napa, Autozone & the others all sell packs of replacement fastners. You CAN try & reuse the ones that come out but once you see the design you'll understand why it's just easier to replace one after it's been pry'd out.

There are two screws, though. One is one the inside of the armrest, and another is a torx head that holds on the window crank (assuming you have manual windows, that is)

Once you pry off the dor panel from the tabs, you just have to shoehorn it around the door handle, and the door lock. I find it easiest to hold the handle in the 'open' position, then tilt the panel up until it clears, then lift the whole thing upwards to get it around the door lock, dodging around the vent window latch.

I personally just take the 2 screws off, lock the door, and pop it off. Yeah I had a few of the tips on the inside break, but no big deal for me... haha

Go with polk for your door speakers, they are great quality especially for the price.

Polk are ok. I went with Pyle for the front and rear, especially when I got a deal from Amazon. Around $45 for all 4.
