i just purchased a 1982 bronco with 351 and dreaded eec iii. the carb has already been swapped off the variable venturi style, but it still has the non adjustable distributor. I noticed the engine is very weak and traced the vacuum lines and discovered the map sensor has been removed and lines plugged----so no vac advance! thinking of just dropping in an hei. Any thoughts or suggestions? this will not be a daily driver, just an offroad vehicle that will occasonally pull trailers, etc----so torque is most important. thanks

The Ford HEI dizzy conversion is a great solution for your problem, and you can find one for under $100 on ebay. I'm running one on my 460 swap in the 84 Bronco. Here's a recent thread with a good install write-up that may help you. You can also find other threads by searching for "HEI". (be sure to use the " marks when searching). JSM84
