Hey everyone, i'm havin a problem with a bronco i just bought. Its a 90' full size with a EFI 302. Can anyone tell me why i need to give it gas when i start it. After about 5 min it will idle by itself, but prior to that , it seems like its searching for an idle? Any ideas?? Also, i plan to change the fuel and air filter, and also plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Hopefully it runs better after that. One more thing, the tranny fluid is low and shifts late. Any ideas for tranny fluid? Should i just fill it with whats recommended or does anyone else know of another brand. thanks for all the help

p.s., thanx to all who responded to the question i had about tilt wheel.... I do have it, and works great

fuel filter and plugs and all that happy horsesh&% is nice if its is needed but your problem sounds like a slow or bad

Idle Air Control Valve. It runs between $60-$80 bucks. This little electric valve is mounted on the left (driverside) of the throttle body. All it does is allows air to bypass the throttle plates to control your idle speed. It gets slow and sluggish with age. A good thing you could also do is replace all your vaccum lines, that will mess with your truck alot, cause it sucks too much air in than it the truck thinks.

maybe it has to do with the choke. i know in my carbureated, it did that and i put a little clip on my front valve, and it works great. but how to fix it on a fuel injection i have no idea.

bigfordpos (hahaha funny name) is right i believe, that control valve went on mine and i had the same idling problem, but not the starting, id def say you have a vaccume leak somewhere, look at it this way, you just got the truck, you wanna know whats good, so just overhaul a few things, replace all the vaccume lines, give it a tuneup, change every filter you can, and clean the throttle body when you replace the sensor, but be careful, make sure you buy THROTTLE BODY cleaner, i heard iots bad to use anything else, and after all of that, you will know whats what and if the problem persists, at least you will know what it isnt , and as for the trans, i run full synthetic mobil 1 but its still a dexron mercon III grade, mainly just follow the factory reccomended fluid for the whole truck and you should be fine, goodluck
