With the help of this forum, I have successfully swapped a 5L ** from a '92 TBird into my '76 Bronco using the original Bronco intake and 30 year old 2Bl carb. Now I want to upgrade to an aluminum intake manifold and a new 4bl.

I would like to use a non-EGR intake.

How are the the exhaust ports from the heads blocked off ?

Would you need some special carbon intake gaskets or steel shims?

Also any suggestions re intake and carb selection would be very helpful (strictly low speed around town driving, no off road use).

Check with the intake manufacturer about the egr thing- i'd guess that with the correct intake gasket it won't matter. I run a 500 cfm edelbrock on my '76 with a performer intake. I used to have a 600cfm Holley- Liked it too. The edelbrock has been more user friendly and drivable, although the truck was probably faster with the Holley. Either one got 15-17 mpg once it was tuned.

I have a 76 with a 89 5.0L ** from a Mustang and I put on a Weiand action plus intake and a Holley 470 Truck Avenger carburetor with stock intake gaskets.

Seems to work good so far.

If you are strictly low speed, you don't need a 4BBL carb. However, if you want it to Sh*% and Get now and then it will make a difference. The second two barrels don't open up under normal street driving, they are there for when you stick your foot into it and don't open until the you start winding out. On a carbed intake the non-EGR version is the same as the EGR version except it doesn't include the port for the exhaust gas return to the EGR valve and you use a stock gasket. Obviously you won't need the EGR spacer under the carb.

Good luck,

:)>-
