engine problems

351 4v I had been have problems with the engine in my truck. white smoke when i start (oil burn off) loss of power hard starts and had to keep making adjustments to my carb weekly. this motor was rebuilt in 1997 but only has about 30k on it. i pulled it and put in a new one out of my parts car and last night i started taking it a part i thought it was most likly a cam. when i took the motor apart the cam looked good lifters good and valves the head gaskets where not leaking. however when i got the heads off there was more carbon on cylinder number 7 and number 2. i have a new cam and lifters to go in but any clues one what the problem could be?

well you can look at a few things. one check you spark plugs wires. than check your rings. lastly look at your heads the valve seels.

It is possible that you had the 7 and 2 plug wires reversed on the distributor, they are right next to each other http://www.carmemories.com/cgi-bin/viewzoom.cgi?image=2055

im shure my spark plug wires where good they where brand new and i am allso shure i had them in the right place. it has and new carb distubuter and intake. allso i checked compression before i took it apart and all cylinders had around 120 psi of static compression.

i thought that may be the case but should i not have some wear on the valves to?
