Instrument cluster

Hi everyone,

New on the forum, from Stockholm Sweden. I have had my Bronco for about 3 months, it is 1989 Eddie Bauer with 351W aut. I bought from a guy, who must be the worst car mechanic in Sweden, I forgot to look, but he must have had two thumbs in every hand. Now I have started sorting out the car and the next thing to be fixed is the instrument cluster. The previous owner has covered the miles figures with black tape and it is very hard to read the Km figures, so I will make a swap. I have found a "Swedish" cluster in a junkyard with broken glass and my question is: Is it possble to remove the glass from my cluster and put it on the "new" one. Thankful for any help

Welcome to the zone > Post some pictures when you get a chance we would like to :-B at them. Yes you can changer the covers, they are held to the cluster by a few small screws. Once you take the cluster out, it should be very easy to see how it is done.

Thank you Seabronc for your answer, it helped me a lot. I will post some pictures of the car, as soon I get the charger for my camera. Forgot in Florida, when I was visiting relatives over Christmas and New Years Eve.

Like I said, I have started sorting out the car, the previous owner has been all over, trying to fix it. Rear window, brake lights, direction lights, power window on the drivers side, exhaust sytem and so on. You should see the result of his efforts, odd solutions everywhere.

The car is mainly going to be used for towing my sons 32 feet boat trailer in the summer time. It is a little bit too expensive to use it as a daily driver, we pay about $ 5.70 a gallon for the gas in Sweden.

Holy crap thats expensive. Well at least the Swedish girls are hot, got to make up for it somehow. Cant have everything.

You might want to keep an eye on ebay. There are dealers that specialize in automotive books and often offer EVTMs. The EVTM (Electric and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) is probably the single most useful book you can get for your truck. Ford produced them for every model vehicle since, I believe, the late 60's. Just did a search and came up with this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-Ford-B...010505201QQrdZ1

If I had to choose one service manual for my truck the EVTM is #1. It is also sometimes possible to find a complete set of service manuals, they sure beat the Chilton and Haynes manuals.

Oh yes, in reference to the $5.75 per gallon price, I believe that in Sweden 75% of that is tax. So if you remove the tax from the picture you pay about $1.44 per gallon to the oil companies. In the US the tax on gas is about $.50 per gallon which means we pay the oil companies about $1.89+ per gallon. I know that doesn't make it any easier to pay the price, but just a reality check on who is sticking it to who. In Sweden it is the government and in the US it is the oil companies with the government's blessing /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .
