Yep, go to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts (or your local company) and buy the conversion kit. It is usually 39.00 and has the new fittings, filler hose, coolant and system oil to recharge the system. You have to COMPLETELY remove all the R-12 first. If your old system is empty, such as by a blown hose or something, then it's already empty, if not you will need to have it 'evacuated' by a pro. You put on the new fittings, and follow the instructions. You may want to change the evaporator core but it's not necessary, I converted a system on a buick I had after it blew a hose and emptied all the coolant out. I simply replaced the hose, installed the new kit and charged it up. Easy as pie and worked great. Is there a way to convert the A/C on a 88 that used the R-12 to use the R-134a? ( I think those are the right alphanumeric codes.) Thanks
