Hi,

I have been into old ford trucks and broncos for a long time in fact I own several of them.

here is my question I own a 1976 camper special 2 wheel drive 3/4 ton with a 460 and a c6 which are in excellent shape. I was wondering what is involved to swap the tranny into my 79 bronco with a tired transmission. I know there are some differences but am not sure what they are. I do know that the output shafts are different because of the transfer case but can they be swapped without tearing the whole trans apart. I have done a lot of things to these trucks over the years but have never messed with auto trannys. My pride and joy which is getting a full resto is a 76 hiboy with the T-18 in it the body from the camper special is goiong to be used on it as it is an arizona rust free body. The bronco is a hunting do everything vehicle so it is basically just stock with a few up grades but I want it reliable and as anyone can relate to if I can save some money using what I have why not I would appreciate any help on this and yes I already know all about the 460 swap into the bronco and have thought about it but I also have a 17 year old driver ( don't need to say any more).I know the 400 is a smog motor but they are pretty reliable in stock form and it will be gone throuh in the next few years. I could put a four speed in the bronco but I am getting old an lazy and it is nice to have the auto. this is the third one I have had with an auto and they have been very reliable this one is just tired.

the only thing you will need to do is swap the center shaft from the tired trans into the fresher one and swap the trans pan from the tired one as well. the pan will allow more fluid and is considerably deeper. good luck!

Yo You better check into that tail end issue,I could be wrong but If I remember right you DO have to take the trans apart to swap the output shafts from a 2wd to a 4wd,Along with taking off the tail shaft housing and putting on the transfer case adapter onto the C6.At that point you might as well rebuild it and throw in a shift kit.Just confirm with a trans person before you rip shit apart. :)>-
