my girlfriend told me the other day that the windshield wipers had stopped working. i was like no big deal probably just a fuse i'll check it this weekend. well i just went out to check it and the first thing that baffled me was that on my fuse block under the dash the windshield wipers arent labled at all. is there another fuse box somewhere or am i just blind? i know its been a long day but i think i can still read allright. the second thing that baffled me was that when i tried to turn them on this strange morris code sound came from under the dash somewhere in the nieborhood of the fuse block. it got faster when i put them on the fast setting and slower when i put it on the slow setting. i've never had this problem before so any insite or thoughts would help. thanks.

Sounds like the wiper relay has gone bad. It is a little square box about 1" across. Mine is in the glove box area on my 92. Alot of them just plug into the fuse block or might be a separate one in line with the wires. When its clicking track it down. Sorry don't about your year but my guess is the relay. Mine clicks every time the delay turn the wipers on.

thanks i'll consult my haynes after dinner to learn more about the relay. what i'm hearing is a series of random clicks and almost a grinding noise its hard to explain. it does kinda sound like morris code though. no real ryme or reason. it doesent seem to be coming directly from the fuse box but definatly in that area

okay haynes failed me... they were very unhelpful about were the wiper relay was or anything. it basically said that they are so cheap that if you suspect its bad you should just replace it. so i called advanced and the lady said the wiper relay was in the list of parts she cannot get. the best she could get is the wiper switch. i'm pretty sure its not the switch because it is doing SOMETHING when i turn it on just not what i want it to do.... a bottle of rain x is lookin real good right about now haha

The grinding noise is not coming from the wiper motor is it? Can you find it and put your hand on the wiper motor and feel or hear that the noise is not coming from it.

Do you have delay function on the wipers?

i honestly dont think it is coming from the motor. its really close to the fuse block by the drivers left foot. i only briefly looked at it but it might be coming from the motor and i just heard a muffled version from inside the cab.
