Personally, if you want to do it and not take the chance of messing something up, I'd take it to a glass shop. It can be done in the back yard, but it's not an easy job.

Good luck,

:)>-

Fred's right. The 78/79's used a funky beadlock system to lock the side glass. I would either follow his suggestio and let a glass shop deal with it or just swap tops & be done with it.

Having said that , guard that glass with your life. Those side sliders are freaking *impossible* to find anymore. Let me say that again for emphasis, you CANNOT find the side-sliders *anywhere*, even if you offfer your wife as part of the deal. They are simply not to be found anymore. You have significantly rare $hit and I would take great pains to safeguard it. If anything happens to either one of those side-sliders you WILL NOT find a replacement. The additional airflow that those sliders can provide is unbelieveble. Unfortunately the glass *won't* fit the 80-92 caps otherwise I'd be telling you they're wastefull $hit and offering to take them off your hands for a pittance.

I've been fortunate enough to have a couple 78/79's with that glass and don't underestimate how rare it is these days. If you *don't* know what you're doing then pls let a good shop deal w/it. Yrs down the road you'll be SO much happier that you did. Side sliders are hard to come-by these days and I have YET to find a source for replacements.

If you want/need I can scan & post the info from the 78/79 factory manuals but I'm not sure what that will tell you. Take very good care of them and let professionals deal with it.
