winch question

i just got my first truck (92 bronco xlt) a few days ago. im new to trucks obviously and im not sure as to what winch i could use on my truck, all i want is something i would be able to pull myself out with if/when i get my self stuck. also if you might recommend a good front bumper to mount it to please do so. i know these might seem like a stupid question to some of you vets but like i said im new to trucks. thanks ahead of time for the advice.

As a general rule of thumb, you want a winch that can pull 1.5X the weight of your rig. Since the Bronco weighs about 5800 lbs, you want at least a 9000# winch. A smaller one like 8000 lb will pull but will strain the winch motor more. Also, if you've ever been bogged down in mud, you'll want the biggest winch you can afford, like a 12K lb model. There really isn't a good winch bumper on the market for pre-97 Ford's, but you might chekc with BroncoAir or BoonDock Bumpers fora anything new. There's alot to properly using a winch to pull yourself or another rig out of a jamb. You might look in the Tech articles forum for my link to Miesk5's Hompage, then go to the winch section. broncograveyard hasa few decent winch bumpers...check winchdepot.com or 4wheel parts for good winch deals and if you were to go with anything under a 12k pound winch i would also suggest a nice heavy duty ****** block so that you can double it to eitehr 16 or 18k pulling makes it easier on the winch

there pretty nice but a little outta my price range. ima have to bite the bullet i guess and get something out of my price range i dont really have a choice.
