Does anybody know where the best place to get a trans and lift kit from. I have looked at all the bronco places. Wildhorses B.C Bronco's, Tom's etc. They all kind of seem the same to me. And also does anyone know if a lift kit can be done by one person doing the work in the yard. Or do I need to find a shop that will do it.

Thanks for you're help

Dwain, if they all look kinda the same, its because basically they are.

If you are looking for a basic lift kit, anyone of the Bronco dealers can set you up. If you are looking for something a little more specialized (ext radius arms etc...) then you will need to find out which kit is going to suit your needs best.

If your truck doesn't have too much rust (frozen bolts) then yes with some basic mechanical knowledge and proper tools you should be able to tackle this job yourself.

As for the trans, what are you looking to do? rebuild? 4 or 5 speed swap? manual to auto??

STLKIKN, thank you fro you're help. I currently have a 3spd colum shift in my 71. it has no lift at all or are the fenders cut. and from what i can see no rust. the tranny is junk and i am just looking to get a better tranny and fix up the truck. just don't really know wear to start i want to 4speed i hear it is the easist and cheapist way to go. I am looking at putting in a NP 435. A guy I work with has a 71bronco he wants removed from his yard with a new 435 in it. I am think I am going to go with that unless he changes his mind. I hope not I get a free truck with lots of useable parts. what are the right tools to do a lift kit even with frozen bolts?

You would need to have on hand...

a full set of 1/2" drive sockets and bars, ratchets etc, breaker bars and snipes,a cutting torch, plenty of PATIENCE, and probably more than just a weekend, depending on how much trouble the bolts are. if they are really bad, you will need to press new bushings into the leafs etc, a whole wack of stuff can go wrong (it usually does when I try to do stuff at home) and it may require parts that you hadn't counted on (shackles etc) BUT that would be a worst case scenario...

The 435 is pretty much bullet proof, and if you can get a whole parts truck with it... go for it!!

That 71 may have a d 44 front diff, if you have an older truck with a D 30, it would be a good time to upgrade that as well.

good luck!

Any of those mfgs 3.5" lift works well.

New coils up front will make the Bronco ride very nice.

If you want flex, get the Cage arms. They're like Duff's but better. Jim Cole who used to be at Duff sells them.

Oh and the 435 is a good way to go. I run one but kept the 205 t-case that was with it so I had to make my own cross brace out of C-channel. The yokes can be converted. The 435 shifts like a big 1 ton truck not quick like a 3 speed. The nice thing about the 4 speed is the granny low 1st gear for off road use when needed.

You can use your D20 t-case but you will need an adapter to make it work. I have heard some 2wd Ford trucks that have the NP435 will fit the D20 without the adapter since the tail shaft is shorter. The 4x4 trucks have a longer shaft resulting in a adapter to take up the gap. Do a search on it, I've read stuff on it before but its been years.
