Right now, I have a '91 with an E4OD, and a 1356. I found a good deal on an NP205 from a '79, but I'm worried that I wouldnt be able to use it, b/c the VSS I currently have, mounts to the rear of the 1356's housing, and that was never an option, in the 205.

I know the 92-96 guys have nothing to worry about, b/c theirs mounts in the rear end, but are there any options for us pre-92 guys?

Another thing I should add, is the fact that I do have a '96 10.25 rear that I'll be swapping in, when I get back from my deployment...Would the fact that it has a spot for a VSS, be any help to me? I really dont like the fact that its mounted to the axle, but if that's my only option, I'll take what I can get.

I'd like something that I could keep high, and dry on the T-case.

Do I have any options?

There's a company that recently came out with a VSS for the t-case. Can't recall the name right now, but searching the forums should find a post or two. It was within the last year or less.

FSB had something about Chris Leduc making some sort of recloation kit that moved it up from the rearend, I just wasnt sure if it would work for the 205.

I found something cool on Pirate, where someone had used a speed sensor from a '94 gt mustang, and it fit(and worked)in the hole that used to house the speedo cable. I'm trying to find some more info on that.

Thanks Randy!

There are options for the VSS ( vehicle speed sensor ) the kit for the T Case is for when you put a rear end in it that doesnt have a VSS in the top of it . Some of the early ones had 2 one in rear end for anti locks and one in the T case but it actually just piggybacks inline with the speedo cable . You can buy these at the parts store . The later trucks use the one in the rear end for both anti locks and the speedo there will be no speedo cable coming out of the T case and this will be mostly 92 and up when the odometer went digital . Somewhere in the late 80,s is where youll find the 2 VSS system . I had to get one to get the speedometer to work in my plow truck . On my other bronco with the E4OD and the stand alone baumann tranny controller it actaully ask you in the software setup which VSS your useing for calibration purposes . When I bought that sensor it was like $30 . Any of the T cases after 92 dont have a speedometer drive hole its not machined out thats why the kit to locate VSS on tail of T case when changing rear end in these the computer needs to see the VSS for the E4OD to function properly . You can however change the very back cover on the 1356 put a 90 or 91 cover on it the small one around the yoke and you will have the hole for the speedometer drive VSS just have to put the gear, ball.snap ring in there as well but can be done . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I posted a similar question over at FSB, and got a response that my '91 should have the speedo cable and the vss that plugs in the back of my 1356...With what you're saying, that makes sense.

The same person said, I should be able to plug the vss/speedo plug that I currently have, right into the hole for the speedo cable on an np205. I dont know the truth to this, so I'm trying to do a bit more reasearch. That would be absolutely awesome if it did, but I want to be certain b4 I shell out more money :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Yes it will plug directly into that new T Case may have to look at the color of the gear on the VSS module and the color on the output shaft of the T case and then verify that the output gear is the same on both T cases if there not the same color theres a good chance that they will interchange . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I actually havent used it yet I will be finishing the harness for it soon and should have it on the road . The software is very easy to use it gives you total control of the E4OD so I could see where if you didnt know what you were doing you could really mess something up . They are very helpful if you have any problems just call them and they will have an answer for you it cost like $400 but its the only option you have if you dont use the factory computer ( got rid of all the fual injection ) Ill let ya know soon how it works . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

What exactly are you doing with the harness? Do you need to modify something, to make it work?

You have to make it , They give you a pigtail that comes out of the control box with like 20 wires in it . I then bought the ends that plug into the tranny from ford ( OUCH ) and then you have to cut into the factory harness to find things like the OD cancel light and a couple other things . When done it is a complete stand alone system that does not in any way use the factory computer and you have full control of the E4OD tranny . I have the wire diagram made up now I just need to concentrate on one project at a time and get r done . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I can do that . Ill have to scan it so I can shrink it down . I have been working sooo many hours lately that I havent had time to do much of anything but work and sleep . Kinda sucks but the moneys good . If you look for an E4OD tranny get one from 95 or newer if possible it will already have the updates . :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I already have an E4OD in my '91, and unfortunately(for my wallet), it's already been upgraded. :( /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> No hurry on the wiring diagram. Something like that is still a LOOOOOOONG way off. I still have a motor swap, and now it looks like a T-case swap to worry about 1st. B)

Thanks again for the help.

You dont by any chance remember the Ford part #s for the plug ends that you bought do you?

Turns out I'll be buying the Baumannator setup sooner than I thought. I just got a good deal on a mustang mass air harness, that I couldnt pass up, so that kinda sealed my fate with my E4OD :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Now I'll have lots of cool projects to come home too :p /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Nevermind, I had the wrong number.

Blade, do you still have the number for those plug ends you used to make your own harness?

Advance Adapters, Atlas II maker, turned me on to a company that makes speedo cables and they had an inline VSS that may work for you. Can't remember but call Advance Adapters to see.

I actually just came across one today. If someone doesnt buy it out from under me, I'll be able to buy it on friday for $350. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I actually considered going with a mass air ECM out of a '95. I actually got as far as buying a WAY1 ecm(I got a pretty good deal on it). The problem I was running into, was finding a good engine bay/engine harness. The ones that I did come across, were too expensive for my liking. That idea didnt get very far. I'll be selling off my WAY1 ecm as soon as I get back from Iraq.

I decided going with a mustang ECM was the way to go. There are enough people here, and over at FSB that have done the same swap, so that makes getting help alot easier when I run into problems :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> ...Plus the mustang ECMs are supported better when it comes to chips and aftermarket tuners.

I already bought the mustang ecm, and the complete engine bay/engine harness to do the mass air swap.

Good info.

I'll see info I can get out of the guys at advanced, just in case.

Thanks for the help.
