New Member here so sorry if I'm not following protocol in regards to posting etc.. Will learn as I go. I did search for similiar posts but to no avail so here goes. Hello everyone & thanks in advance for your input. New to Broncos & recently purchased 1971 Bronco - Half Cab. Truck was a 6cyl truck & now has the 302. Throttle assembly was not updated to the V8 assembly & previous owners continued to use the stock 6cy throttle cable/assembly. The cable was broke when I purchased so now I want to update to the V8 assembly. Not sure this will work on my firewall, see photos attached. When I've reviewed photos of this application the throttle assembly is adjacent to the master cylinder but as you can see in my photos that's not possible. Was the firewall on this truck modified in some way or is this a non-issue & I just don't have a clue? BTW the stock 6cy throttle cable is removed form the truck & not shown in the photo. Hopefully the photoS will help describe anything I've failed to include in my post.

Thanks!

Hi Climer., Welcome..!

"sorry if I'm not following protocol in regards to posting etc.."

You did good..! you're way ahead of some who have been on here for years.. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

"Was the firewall on this truck modified in some way.?"

The bad news....YES & it could be worse news.

This is done so as to install a V/8 eng. AND installing/attaching it to a 6 cyl. transmission. (When using the V/8 trannie., this firewall mod is NOT necessary.) The 6 cyl. trannie is a tad weak for the V/8 under hard usage.

The portion of the firewall that the throttle "bellcrank" attached to is gone and an add-on panel placed in there with a 90deg. cut-back. Not a 45deg. like the otherside. Also., looks like the firewall was cut to clear the pass. side valve cover as well.

The rad. appears to be mounted to an adaptor (couple inches thick) to move it back....& maybe some homemade hangar brackets.

The good news..., this is all fixable but takes some talent. (& some $$$)

Also.., don't quote me but that looks like it might be a 351W engine in there.

Top Gun, thanks for your response! Looks like I have some work ahead of me. Not exactly the news I was hoping for but this information will steer me in the right direction. I'll have to do some more research on the engine. Not sure how to tell a 302 apart from a 351 but I'll figure that out. Thanks again, this information was very helpful.

You're welcome.., do keep us posted & "ask away" ..!

BTW., the V/8 adaptor between the trannie & transfer case is 8 7/8" long (In some cases, 9 3/8) and., the 6 cyl. adaptor is 6 1/2"..!

If it's 6.5 = 6 cyl. trannie.

The heads are taller on the 351 --- & the intake manifold water hose/thermostat housing mount different. I think the 351 mounts on the front of man. & 302 mounts on top.

However., this may not be true with an aft. mkt. intake. There's a couple other measurable differences but not coming to mind.

P.S. If, in fact, it's a 351..., there's a special bellcrank available for the firewall. It allows for the "taller" 351.
