uh oh

on my 93 5.8L, I went to start loosening the drivers side exhaust manifold to put a new gasket in, I soaked the bolts with some good stuff. anyhow, I snapped the head off the bolt closest to the firewall. Am I in big trouble, I have stopped right there, I have not gotten on any of the studs that have brackets attatched to them. What should I do, I have a bad feeling right now. Please give me some advice!!

You can try using an ez-out, but they're pretty brittle especially the smaller bits. But, they're pretty cheap and the easiest solution. You have to make sure to drill the hole directly in the center of your broken bolt, and make sure the hole is straight too. But given your location, this might be hard to get to. Is there any part of the bolt sticking out that you can get some pliers on to maybe turn it a little?

If you don't have experience using bolt extractors, I'd take it to a reputable mechanic. If you damage the bolt further, you may make it much harder for the extraction to occur. I bet you'll pay less than $20 to get it removed.

I'm with michibronc even if you have to pay $40 or $50 bucks it's well worth it....cause if ya drill the hole lopsided and get into the head then your *****'d....then you'll have to go the machine shop route and cost twice as much....but yaeh that's a tough spot to get to anyway...i've got headers and every so often have to tighten them up....good luck.. Did you just snap off the head or the whole bolt? If there is enough sticking out to get a stud remover on, you could use it once the manifold is off. I did the same thing on my 460 and was lucky enough to have about an inch hanging out of the head once the manifold was removed and used my stud extracter and got it out with liberal amounts of ****...
