I have a u joint in my front axle that is bad. it is the u joint on passenger side closest to the diff. My question is, is this u joint the same as the ones closest to the wheels. and what is all involved in replacing it. i know i will have to take the hub apart. but what else is all involved. And does any one have a part number for that u-joint.

all three u-joints in the front end are the same... as for replacement, it depends on what front d44 axle. there are two versions. a bolt on pass. side axle and a c-clip axle. if it is the c-clip then the front diff cover hasto come off to release the clip so u can slide the axle out. the bolt on one just unbolts from the side of the case to remove the axle.(after removing RF. hub and spindle). if u do these u-joints make sure u use good quality one. dont want to do it again

if u have access to a ball-joint press(looks kinda like a heavyduty c-clamp) then u can try and do the inner u-joint with out removing the complete axle. make sure the mark the splines so the axle lines back up when reinstalling. this will be a pita but u wont have to remove part of the diff to change.
