This may sound completley crazy but I was thinking about turbo charging my 302 with a stage3 turbocharger. Anybody know anything about this?

From what i hear turbocharger does better in high rpms and supercharger does good in high rpms but its automatic power when u push the gas, turbo has to build....by the way i could be wrong thats just what i've heard (im no expert). If i were u i would go supercharger...im still trying to decide wether i want to supercharge my bronco just cuz it would be kickass and give me some nice little fun power. Why do you want to turbocharge your bronco...u plan on racing it or something??

Kudos on originality though

I just wanted a little bit more power to climb up those hills and some for the street to. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Does anyone know where I could maybe find a turbo made especially for a 94 bronco???

If all you want is a little extra power for hills, why don't you consider regearing your rear end and save a few bucks.

good luck,

True, but whats the fun in that?? And who can say they have a freakin turbocharged bronco?

Youre not going to get a lot out of a turbo compared to a supercharger, thats why you hear about blown broncos and never turboed

a turbo has a hard time making its power in lower RPMs in gas power rigs simply because there isnt enough exhaust pressure spinning the turbine/compressor to make the added boost effective. thats why you hear of more supercharged broncos, since they are belt driven and not exhaust driven. more power, sooner

Do it!!! i come from the mustang world were i turbo charged my mustang.

A Turbo is WAAAYY more efficient than a supercharger. you can get more boost with the turn of a ****

do the research it would be way cool and not as hard as you think and the rewards are sweet!!!

1st Gen Lighting guys do it all the time there is even a kit for a 1st gen Lighting

check out these sites www.nloc.net and www.turbomustangs.com

TURBO ON!!!

milehigh, you arent taking into account the difference in RPM range needs. since you and your pals race, you guys need all the upper RPM power you can get, and build the motor itself to give you more lowend bite. in the off road world, however, the more lowend bite we can get and keep throughout the lower RPM band, the better. only time i can see a turbo working well in an offroad application is a long mud drag with a manual trans, where you can get the RPMs up at the line and drop the clutch at launch. otherwise, a turbo simply isnt a cost effective way to gain more power out of an offroad, low-rev motor

I completely agree with you on this....haha but im gonna be crazy and say something, i was looking at another forum the other day and it was talking about a twin turbo with supercharger subaru wrx...im wondering if its possible to get this on a bronco. What do you guys think? OK maybe not TWIN turbo but just a turbo and a supercharger...power on both your different ranges.

If you choose the correct exhaust housing you can have the boost come

in very early and set your wastegate @ say 10 psi to bleed of the rest

centrifical superchargers (vortech, paxton) are very linear and make peak boost near peak rpm

you have to remember turbos are LOAD driven not RPM . why do you think diesels use them and most turbo diesel engines only red line@ 3500 rpm

when i drive my work truck 01 ram 2500 W/cummins on the highway pulling a trailer if i step on it the rpms dont jump up the boost increases because of the load

example : If you drive a turbo car subaru, eclipse and at a dead stop push the clutch in and put the rpm's @ 6000 you will not have any boost!!! there has to be a load on the engine, UNTIL that clutch is released putting load on the motor creating lots of exhaust preasure you will not have any boost.

a freind of mine had a turbo on his mustang 302cid boost coming in around 2700 rpm, replaced his motor w/stroked 351W "408 cid" w/ same turbo he was making 2psi @ idle TOO MANY CUBES. He gained 106 cid 302vs408 which has alot more exhaust peasure than the smaller motor, spinning that turbo alot faster

ther are diesels w/a turbo feeding a supercharger "detriot diesel"

On something like this you really need to weigh the costs versus the benefits. Turbocharging your 302 might get you up into the 300 HP range, but it's gonna cost you a couple grand to get the engine modified and get the turbo installed. It's also going to **** the life out of the engine. You'll have drivetrain reliabilty issues; especially if your engine has a few miles on it already. Not to mention your bronco weighs around 4,800 lbs empty and a 300 HP V8 (especially a 302) isn't really going to make it much faster or more powerful. It's not practical for off road at all unless you're into mud running. Plus it's just one more thing that can break out on the trail. You'd be better of saving yourself some money by swapping in some different gears and getting your power that way.

you could put a ram air shaker scoop on the hood to match that super charger you know that wouldn't be as gaudy as a full blower but would look awsome and sound great.

Boost it! But build for it and it will need some type of tuner. Like a TwEECer. Blow thousands to get it right.
