Tranny problem

After my first trip out in bronco , every thing was working, until I went to unlock hubs and engage transmission. No power to drive , 2, 1 has some power at very high rpms. Reverse works.Previous owner installed what I think is a C4 with about 2000 miles on it . It has vacuum to modulaor and tranny has fluid . Thanks for any help

One of the two bands might need to be replaced or might need to be taightened. I helped my friend rebuilding his C4 this summer. He was experiencing problems with gear changing. He had to floor it for the transmission to change gears, it did not go to 2nd, only 1st and 3rd. We changed the 2nd gear band (the other is for reverse). It was broken. After we installed it, we had still some problems, but it was because we forgot to connect the vaccum to the transmission. :-"
