When it's mission impossible time.
I'm gonna a have to pick on Ti, L or Motech about this one.
Did a GM 10SI alt swap on it & I guess I just don't have something wired right. (won't charge 14.5v)
Even odds it's something simple I've overlooked.
Other then that, everything is good.
SR5 -1 owner, had it since new.
20/22R hybrid, 36mm weber DGEV
5.71/Lockers F&R
Winches, F&R
5 band commo setup
Yep, it'll Dig it.

Looks like too much fun!
the 10 si is an old standby for suresi harness.jpg
Should have Batt at pin 2 then key pwr to bulb (Or 3-500 ohm resistor) to pin 1 and bingo! should work
Hope that helps
Cheers

This is the 'present state'..... Hope these pics are of good enuf quality that you can make sense of everything. If I need to zoom on any specific area, just let me know. Will get close-ups of the actual stuff if need be.
I believe these types have to 'see' 12v to start charging- this could be where I messed up?

Sorry, cant quite make out where the terminals are connected to the 10 si.
That yel wire from the charge lamp relay to term L on the toyota alt,
Is that what you connected to pin 1 on the si?
If so, then that is your issue, it needs to see 12v there through a bulb or resistor to excite the field, then it powers from within and puts 14v on the lamp wire turning it off.
Just cut the yellow and white off of the charge relay and connect it to term 1 on the SI.
The other 2 terminals need batt feed, 1 big(charge) 1 small(voltage sense for the regulator)
Does that make sense?

Will try a zoom on that area.

Will have to get under the hood to clarify.

I wouldnt bet against ya on that.

Sorta, yes.....sorta no.
The thing does turn the charge light Off when I crank it up.
When I first installed the Powermaster alt, it worked/charged 14 as normal and then stopped after a while. Went to 12v after that.
Take it off and put it on a bench machine- presto, 14.5v! 😡
I have noted on some other examples of these alternators I've seen, some have a pigtail that runs back into itself, or runs from the big wire to back to one of the the small wires.
Is this how it 'sees' the 12v & triggers charging?

The trigger comes from the charge bulb "looking for ground". The small batt wire is what the regulator looks at to control the output. (Lots of guys hook it right to the big "B" terminal, but its more accurate if its closer to the battery or fuse block)
Maybe check and see what is hooked to pin 1, My bet is if you cut the yellow and white off of the lamp relay and hook it to term one your problem will be solved.
No answer for why it worked in the first place though.

'Does that make sense?'

Like I've said, I can get a bit block-headed when it comes to electrical stuff.
(Probably the same reason I'm not much good with mathematics either)
>TG for calculators or I'd be screwed<
This is looking more & more like the 'something simple' that's got me painted into the corner. 😪

One thing I have noticed about the 10SI, when it does charge 14.5v, this old electrical system lighting in the truck Really comes alive, like when it was brand new.

14.5v steady now, so a road test to make sure and can consider that a wrap.
Now more sheet metal work ahead.
Thanks all!
