Top Speed in 4H?

does anyone know what the recommended speed is in 4H? any info is appreciated

I have not seen a "top speed" written down anywhere. But I'm sure your transfer case and front drive parts can handle whatever speed you can travel safely in the conditions that would require 4X4. Remember, the 4X4 is not designed for use in good traction situations. So anytime you are in 4x4, you would be on a surface that requires slower than normal travel.

That is of course if you actually meant to ask about 4-High. If you are asking about 4-Low, your top speed will be much slower. Just watch your tach if you have one or listen to the engine. Be carefull not to overspeed the motor and you will be fine.

Not in 4WD but have had occasion to drive distance in FWD tcase and front end did just fine at 65+. With that said I can see NO reason to need to go that fast if 4WD is also needed.

Couple of other 4x4er's I talked to said that 4h can handle any speed. But, like Roadkill said, if you're in 4x4, you shouldn't be driving fast enough to worry about it, unless you're racing through the desert for some reason... :-"

And wileec, to do that, did you remove the rear driveshaft and put it in 4h? I've heard that it's possible to do, but not the greatest thing for the case or trans.

I don't know of a written limit, but a part time 4X4 is not intended for high speed driving as it will seriously reduce your gas mileage and cause excessive wear on the components. I leave my hubs locked on bad winter days when the road is snow covered and use 2H or 4H as needed. Contrary to the apparent belief of the SUV owners, 4X4 is not intended to allow you to continue at 65MPH down the highway when you should be doing 45 MPH due to the road conditions. Remember a Bronco is a MPV not a SUV .

i've done 55+ fishtailing through a field.......now beer, girls, and showing off were involved and i would not recommend it. but the bronco had no problem and 4x4 still working fine ) )
