Just got the '77 project Bronco i've always wanted. 302 with the C-4 tranny. I'm pretty sure I wanna run 35's on it, want it to be capable on the trail but also able to drive a hundred miles to the trail if needed (don't wanna have to trailer it.) Got a gear recommendation? Are 4.56's too tall for highway riding? Anybody run 35's with the C-4? All thoughts are appreciated.

I have 35s on the rising rust project I am working on now. I drove the beast a little bit before the fenders started falling off and I began the restore project. For the little while I drove it with the 35s, I loved it. I don't know about the 100 miles down the highway though. I don't have to go but about 10 miles to where we play in the swamp.

Check out this link. try to keep your tire/gear ratio in the green for overall performance http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/help/help_p...ratio_chart.htm

I think that is a great chart. I think I might be in deep trouble with my rising rust project though. I will let you all know pretty soon.

Not all tires are the same, even if they say they are.(between brands 35 isn't 35 ect). That being said,I'm running 35 MTR's with 4.56's,I'm about 2850 rpm @ 65 mph.Its not tall at all,it feels rather low.I'm running a C-4 and 302.It would be perfect with and overdrive. One of the guys on Broncofix website, told me they went 4.56 and 35 MTR's,and ended up getting a 3550 trans that has and overdrive.I like mine ,it has plenty of offroad power, thats what I wanted. There was a tire and gear chart,a while ago in Bronco driver mag..if you want I'll find it and tell you the exact rpm's for what tire and gear ratio.. <)

So in your opinion, with the C4 and 35's and 4.56 is it unbearable on the highway, or is it tolerable? It sounds like 4.56's are about right, I'd just hate for the thing to be so bad on the highway I'd be reluctant to take it to the trails. (And by bad on the highway I mean loud and rough and slow--who cares about gas mileage with one of these things)

thanks for the help.
