Is there a place I can buy a diamond plate piece that fits the lower portion of the tailgate below the aluminum trim panel? Or do I have to get this fabbed up locally?

Something similar to this...

Nice looking truck. You will probably have to fabricate the part. Is it only for looks and not to cover rust?

I have a used tailgate that is just stsrting to show signs of rust. I want to grind it down and used a rust prohibiting paint. Then cover it in the diamond plate. So it's for both, to cover rust and for looks.

BTW, thats my goal, to make my truck look like that. A little more bodywork and the lift and its there!

WOW, I didn't know JBG sold those! The one listed is for the Early Bronco (66-77), wonder if they have one for the fullsize model?

I think any local metal shop can cut the piece for you, just need to figure how to attach it. I've used the stainless rocker panel trim pieces on a previous truck, and took them off cause they trapped moisture under them. THey used 3M 2-sided adhesive tape. I think this tg panel would have the same problem, unless you sealed it with silicone or something. Still would look better than a rust hole, I guess.

I made a aluminum diamond plate piece for the inside of my tailgate...where the access panel is. I am a Sheet Metal Worker, so I can get the metal I need. It is made out of 1/4" thick aluminum diamond plate. If I can get my lazy butt around to it, I will take a pic.

If the lower piece already has rust the 3M wouldn't hold long. Like me, you will only be putting off the inevitable. I cut out the rust and put fiberglass across the whole piece, but that R stuffis working it's way thru :-& . I can see the fiberglass starting to blister.

I think it would look great on a tail gate though. I'm sure you could find some stainless bolts and attach it that way. I might consider it when I replace the tailgate.

Good luck,

:)>-
