They're both good t-cases, but the NP208 may be easier to find. It seems to me that I've seen more mid-80's Broncos with the 208's and only a few with the 13-45's. But you can swap one for the other, as long as you swap the shifter linkage, too.which one is better
anyone got a link to tha thread about deciphering the tag on the rear end... mine is covered with crap and rusty but i did the scribbling a pencil on a piece of paper trick and i think i have a set of letters and numbers that make sense. i just need to know what they mean.yes, there should be a metal ID tag bolted to the rearend center section. Your 86 Bronco most likely has the Ford 8.8" rear axle, which has a cover bolted onto the back of the center. It's also possible that you may have one of the last Ford 9" axles to be put on a Bronco. The rear cover on it is welded, so the center chunk comes out the front side.
The tag should be located on one of those bolts in either case. Deciphering the tag or your door jamb safety sticker axle code is posted in another recent thread. JSM84
