How difficult would it be to drop in a C4 in place of the original 3-speed?

It's about a 6 banana job.

Some expense involved as well. Bellhousing to T-case...then dr. shaft adjustments.

C4 is alright but if you are going to transpant and want a 3 speed go with the C6. If you replace the steels and frictions as well as the the torque converter with top quality stuff, then you can't beat the C^ for a 3 speed. If you want OD then that is a different ball of wax all together. Waht kind of T-case you running?
