I am a newbie here and after having owned a couple of Jeeps I've decided that the early Broncos are more appealing to me.

Here is my dilema. As I get older I like shifting less (yeah I know it makes me lazy but at least I'm honest about it!) and would like an auto tranny. Hence my looking at the Broncos. I really like the 302/C4 availability in these but in my area it seems there are alot more 3-speeds than autos available, and the price is usually quite a bit higher here for the auto versions.

Now to the question! Can you switch from a 3-speed to a C4 and is it a fairly painless swap or should I just bite the bullet and wait for the "right" auto unit to become available?

I did a search but didn't come up with an answer to this question.

Appreciate the input!

---"I like shifting less"---

You must be going to drive street only...

Dirt, trail, & rough trail are much more fun with a stick...otherwise, you're just "along for the ride". ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

(however. auto may have an advantage in rock-crawlers)

Appreciate the input!I have a C-4,and really like it.With the price of fuel, and my desire to have the lowest gears I can stand,to me it seems the obvious choice to go EOD auto tranny. It might cost just a bit more, but you can have lower gears ,and still cruise at highway speeds.I think you might have to get an adapter from Advance adapters, but I think it might be worth it.I run 35's,and 4.56 gears, and I'm screaming at 65 mph,at about 2,900 rpm's.I beleive a C-4 is a direct swap, but of course you will need to get a Flexplate to replace your flywheel, and a Column shift for an auto.I went with a Stainless Flaming river tilt unit, and it is a clean and real sweet addition .You could also check out the floor style shifters,or the Lokar cable sytems.
