Stuck in low 4x4

:unsure: He is an 85 xlt,5.0,302, thats all i know lol. But i was playing in some sand so i pulled him into low 4x and had fun..got on the blacktop and he wouldnt listen. I was stuck for a while trying to get him to shift out but nothing. so on the way home he shfted to nutral himself at a stop sign. He doesnt shift himself anymore but he is my truck that i used to take the kids to school..important. Please help me and Frank(my bronco). THANK YOU!!

My 89 was like that, SHE was stubborn. I had no 4hi so I would use 4lo. When I had to switch back to 2hi the lever would go but it wouldnt change internally, I would unlock the hubs and drive it like that until it would pop into neutral, then I would play with the gear shifter (had to be rolling) and eventually grind it into 2hi. I solved it by replacing the transfercase. Sorry for the bad new but your transfer case has internal problems, and either needs rebuilding or fixing

How do i know what kind of transfer case i need? i went to a site and the numbers are dizzing..thank you!!

Crawl under the Bronco, and look for any kind of ID tag or label on the t-case. The 85 most likely will have a NewProcess 208, which has a red sun label. The back of the case is smooth. IF it's got lots of little fins/ribs, then it's a Borg-Warner 13-45. JSM84
