strange noise

[calibronco]

when i begin to accelerate the bronco on the street, there is a rapping noise coming from the engine compartment. the noise seems to disappear once i reach cruising speed. not sure if something is rubbing, etc? any ideas on what this might be? its not a squealing noise - more like dull thudding. so dont think its a loose belt. thanks.

How close are your tires to the wheel wells or front bumper?

How knobby are your tires??

Is it possible that your axle, be it the front or rear, is moving forward enough to make contact?

I understand that the noise is coming from the front, but noises like to bounce around!

I had a thumping sound similar to what you are describing. Mine ended up being a bad rear wheel bearing.

I had a 77 once that had a hard knock only under acceleration...

Took a long time to find it... turns out the body mounts were soft enough and the engine / tranny mounts were

weak enough that under accel, the drive shaft at the c.v. head would hit the floor board/ body crossmember

directly over the t/case...

more like dull thudding ...

You probably swallowed up a "jeep" :-& .... or... radius arm bushings may be shot.., they're right under your feet & bang around when they're worn out.
