i have a 79 bronco 400 c6 203. i was wondering if a 300 swap would be a good idea. i have the 300 in my 96 and love it. i also had a 79 pickup frame that i removed and have the 300 np435 and 205 from. i dont have all the frame brackets though. i plan on running a 203/205 doubler and 35s on the bronco. did they ever make 300-6 broncos? seems alot cheaper and more fuel efficient than rebuilding the smokey gas guzzlin 400. clifford perfromance makes alot of cool 300 stuff. its mostly for crawlin around not alot of mud boggin. i want to go to the 4spd anyway and found a 76-77 donor truck with 4spd 203 setup for the future doubler. what do yall think?

Ford never put the 300 in bronco's as far as I know. I would keep the C6 but put a 205 behind it instead of the 203.

Or you can put the NP435 and the 205 case behind the 400.I myself like the C6's better that the Np 435.I've had both and prefer the automatic.

what would be the ideal engine for an everyday driver bronco on 35s with 4.56 in axles and a 203/205 setup? i plan on beefy shafts, u joints, and ox locker for the 44. i think it should hold up on bfg 35s. i dont wanna go bigger than that because i dont wanna have balancing problems because this will probably become my everyday driver.i just like to crawl around and explore not alot of mud bog/drag stuff so i dont need or want a high horsepower overheating gas guzzler. i have to rebuild my 400 or replace it i thought might as well put somethin smaller in it to save gas and my 96 f150 with the 300 seems to have plenty of tourqe especially with low gears. what do yall think 300 302 windsor?? just starting to think about the possibilities. thanks

the doubler is a damn good idea wish i had a 203 laying around,i do have a divorced 205 in the barn, but that 203 has that better low range.and both together well that would make up for any horse power problems.

**** the 300 has more tq than the 302,parts are just about as cheap, better on gas you already got the parts and a donor truck....what are you waiting for?

are you gonna put in the efi also?buy a good clutch too the best one I ever had was in my 70 442(455,and 4.11's)it was a daul friction centerforce cost a little but it was worth it

good luck and let us know what you do

ill probably just use a carb unless i can find a good deal on a yard motor efi. if i go with the 300 ill put a cam, intake, and headers on it from clifford. i got a price today for a stock remanufactured 400m with 3yr/75,000 at $2100. that gets me 8.5 compression and the retarted timing still though....around 165hp from a 400 v8 doesnt sound too appealing when you think about gas costs. ive rode with a guy in a 78 that has $3000 in the 400 and it runs a little hot, chugs gas, and the oil pump has locked up several times. he did the heads .010 and chevy pistons around 9.5 comp. 750cfm w/3" flowmasters/headers with a midrange cam. its a beast but not very practical. what woudl it take to use the big block c6 with a 300? i have the stuff for the np435 but want options i hope to make this my everyday driver and my last job sometimes required 70-80 miles per day. just gettin to work in my 96 f150 4x4 used almost 1/4 tank.

i can't remember either jegs or summit but i saw an adapter from bb to sm blk ford trannies.something like 60 bucks.

I've had a few 400's and the were stout after alot of work, just wasn't worth driving everday for long distance.I did have a 302 efi f-250 that i was in the process of putting a turbo charger on but someone burnt down my pole barn, with the 302 I had done some work;1.7 roller rockers ,flat tops, mild cam, gasket matched everything, ported heads and intake, good ignition you know all the good crap, just seemed like it didn't have the same when under load pulling a trailor or something,I don't rgret it though my truck now has a 302 .040 over and some other goodies c-6 4.10's and 35's i get decent mileage and as long as i am conservative on what i pull it does fine.i've had some 300's and the are great motors the pull stronger than 302's anyday not out run but pull.

good luck and let us know how it goes
