I have a 72' Bronco with a 351W already in when I purchased it. What I need is help with a stock carb. The one on it is a Autolite 2bb with thermo choke. The choke never worked due to the choke stuck open with the plunger frozen in the choke housing. Also, it never had a dash ***. Anyway, I bought a used motorcraft 2bb Part# D6ME-DA that's off a 1976 351W. My problem is I'm no mechanic and I don't know how to hook up all the vacuum ports , the electric choke and the heat riser won't thread to the choke housing. Carb is clean and works. I installed it, but it won't stay running. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, I know an upgrade to a Holley or Edelbrock carb would do wonders, but at this time I could only afford a used carb for $40.

A picture of your engine with the carb installed would help. The main connection you will need is the distributor. Do you have a vacuum disgram some place on the radiator suport or the hood? The diagram should be color coded by function.

Whats a dash ***? sounds interesting...

Make sure the vacume advance is working by sucking on the hose and see if you tounge sticks to it. This is a small hose that connects to the left vacume line. Or do you have electronic ignition?

The large port goes to the pass side valve cover to recirculate goodies into the carb.

Most ports are not needed and can be plugged off. You probably need to turn the idle mixture screws all the way in and unscrew both equally so you know both sides are in tune with each other.

How long has the truck been sitting without running? Could the gas be bad?

I'm pretty sure what you are trying to describe, but I would like to see a picture of the new carb as it is mounted on the engine to make sure I don't lead you down the wrong path. For ex. if you have an electric choke you won't be using a exhaust heater for the choke. Like Broncoholics said the distributor is usually hooked to the S port of the carb, ( the one that is high on the passenger side) and then ther is the PVC valve line that hooks to a large port under the carb.

However, I would like to see a picture to be sure.

Good luck,
