HELLO.... WORKING ON MY 77 BRONCO. IT DOES NOT COME OUT OF PARK BY USING THE SHIFTER ON THE COLUMN. FIGURED IT WAS THE SHIFT TUBE THAT GIVE OUT. STARTING TO TEAR OUT THE STEERING COLUMN. WIRE HARNESS CONNECTION IS PULLED APART. MOUNTING BOLTS ARE LOOSE AND READY TO TAKE OUT. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM IS GETTING THE LINKAGE THAT COMES UP FROM THE TRANSMISSION TO THE END OF THE STEERING COLUMN POPPED OFF THERE.... I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS A TRICK OR A SECRET ????? ANY SUGGESTIONS OR HELP WOULD BE GREAT !!!!! THANKS IN ADVANCE........

First off , Welcome to the Zone > . Please don't use all caps, it is considered yelling in internet terms. There is a special tool for doing that, but you can force them apart with a pry bar and put them together with a set of channel locks. Did you try disconnecting the linkage at the transmission first and see if you could shift it by hand from detente to detente? You should be able to move it by hand. It is possible that the problem is in the transmission not the steering column.

Good luck,

:)>-

Thanks Seabronc. I used a smaller pry bar & that worked great. I think the bushing can be reused. A few more bolts, and it is out of there. I hope the rebuilding goes O.K. !!!
