Started small repair but has turned into a major restore ,I have the body off of the chassis ...only three body bolts holding! I have had the body sand blasted mostly to clean any old bondo and fiberglass repairs I plan to replace floor pans and U channel that was cut out What do you guys think of using the spray in bedliner for undercoating , I also plan to spray from the firewall to the tailgate with the same .

I did it and think its a nice option. I can now spray out the cab with the hose and it looks great again. Plus it looks nice and decreased the road noise. I then decided to do the inside of the doors to. There are many colors and thicknesses.

I sprayed mine with Herculiner about 5 years ago, but there are better products out there. I would definatly recommend it. Cut the noise inside down. Only draw back is in the engine box, rake your knuckles across that once and you will find alternate routes to changing that back spark plug...lol.

I am sandblasting and painting my interior cab. I was afraid of this upgrade because it seems so "irreversable." Once this stuff is sprayed, it's there for life, yes? Those kinds of improvements always make me jittery... BUT - most of the rhinolined trucks I've seen look really sharp.

Also probably depends on what you want out of your truck. If you're looking for classic look vs if you're looking for good looking truck with practical upgrades (i.e. you're going to be using this truck for what it was built for: blazing off road, loading / unloading, rough housing).

Can't help you much on brand name, although all of the rhino lined trucks I've seen look really good.

Best of luck.

The big deal you will run into is weight gain for the tub. A Rhino or Line-X sprayed tub will weigh about 75-125 lbs more. That is if you are doing a body off resto. If you are leaving the body on, do any one you like. Rhino & Line-X are about 4x as expensive as a do it yourself kit like Herculiner or others out there. The big two do have more rubber in them than any of the store bought ones but some of the store brands have more colors than Rhino or Line-X. I would say look for some alternatives to having it professionally sprayed because you can save yourself about $300 by just doing it yourself. All you need is a cheap spray gun ($10-25 from any automotive paint store) and a compressor that can run a paint gun or do it the long way and roll it all on with a paint roller. I sprayed mine and it looks great except where my heel rubs under the go pedal, it has worn off there and is sheet metal now.

The difference I've seen between home jobs and pro jobs, though, is really significant. I guess it depends on the beauty factor of your truck in the first place, since you're so right about saving major bucks by doing it yourself (plus the personal satisfaction that always comes along with your own TLC) but if you care about looks, I'd lean heavily toward the more expensive professionally done route. Just me.

Thats is true to a point. My spray in job looks professional even if you sit in the cab or are looking in the engine box, but a personal job isnt done to a professional thickness. Line-X & Rhino spray to about 1/4" thickness, mine is only about 1/8" thick. That is one major difference. Another is that most of your backyard spray/roll on applications are a rougher finish than the professionaly done bed liners. I will post pictures of all three later when I get a chance....A Line-X job, Rhino and my Herculiner.

I did a spray on liner that worked well. It had a hardener additive. One can of hardener was half empty and I didn't think much of it until it didn't dry... A few days of scraping and re-spray it looks and feel great. The stuff I used is sold in auto paint supply stores. Can't remember the name but it came in multiple colors. Its a bump but smooth glosy type finsih so its easy to wash. Hurculiner is rough and dirt gets stuck in it.

If I was to do it again I would use Line-X or Rhino Liner for the stength.

The stuff I used has held up well for 5 years but can scrape off on rocks, and wear spots like the door rockers and floor pan slightly.
