Well does your truck have a 302 FI V8 or 351 Carbureted V8?

If its the carbureted engine i can maybe help you.

More info would be helpful. year, engine carb/fuelie, etc. Sucks when you get hosed by a shop, but on the other hand it's generally a poor idea to leave your wheels at *anyones* shop for 3/4 of a year.

IF the check engine light comes on, the best palce to start is to get the diagnostic trouble codes from the computer.

You can search for a thread "Codes self testing and more"

or take it to autozone where they will pull the codes for you.

Does it only stall at idle? Or will it stall regardless of the RPM? If it only stalls at idle, especially cold, check the Idle air control valve. Its a small cylinder (bout 3" long) mounted near the throttle linkage on the throttle body. Sometimes they gum up and stick closed, not allowing air into the engine at idle. usually tapping them with a screwdriver handle free's them up. Theres one place to easily check.

My check ingine light doesnt work..i cant get it smoged cause of that...stupid right? ok maybe not but still. Can i still take it to auto zone even though?

It stalls when we are going..or can you idle and be going? the only thing on my dash that KINDA works is the MPH and thats even off. I dont even know if I have gas in the thing most of the time(only after i fill it all the way up i know)

This truck has been a problem from day one and i just cant give it up! I am in love with a hunk of metal lol. Throttle.... ill have to look that up though! Thank you! Thank you both!

LOL, ok looks like we'll all be spending a little bit of time on this project truck eh?

Are you crawling through this to fix it yourself? or are you wondering what the problems are so that you can have a mechanic take care of it?

I only know of one way to find out if it will throw codes without the dash light ,and that is, to take it to a local auto parts store and ask them to check for codes. Call around, I understand that more and more of them are offering this as a free service. Autozone does this for free for sure.

NExt (or maybe first) check your fuses that may help to narrow down why nothing on your dash is working.

Third, check your grounds, pull them off, make sure they are clean and tight.

Do a search for "Ground locations" I posted them earlier.

SO it looksl ike you have some tooling to do this weekend.

Then... let give us a list of everything that is working or not - that is electrical.

Also try to give us a better discription of how it runs generally, (is it missing... hessitating) and if there is a pattern to how far you can drive or how long the engine will run before it stalls.

Does it just turn off? or does it kinda stutter for a while and then die.
