This spring when the weather breaks (blizzard today), I'm ripping out my whole interior and painting the entire floor and also the walls of the bed with herculiner. My '96 is a real cheapie - it has that crappy looking black cardboard trim on the walls of the bed anyways, so I have no desire to put it back up when I'm done.

This raises a problem with the speakers that are in the back. I don't think it's good to leave them on the mounts unprotected, but I don't want to get rid of rear speakers altogether.

This brings me to my questions:

1. Is there a way to keep those 6 x 9's in the rear? I know a lot of guys have done this herculiner thing and I'm wondering if they got rid of their rear speakers or if they found a way to surround and protect them.

2. Where to install the amp? I'll be installing an amp to either push all 4 of the normal speakers or to power the fronts with some boxes in the back if I have to ditch the 6 x 9's. I'm apprehensive about installing the amp on the floor in case I hit some deep H20. I've come close to having it come in the doors, and probably will in the future at some point because I seem to get significantly more bold each time I go 4 wheeling with this truck.

If anyone has any good ideas or experience (or if you just want to show off your system!), I'd appreciate all advice.

i heve alpines in the doors, and pioneers in the back by the seats, i wana get a kicker sub for behind the seat and an amp i have seen amps mounted on back of the rear seat and i seen the rear side compartments cut out and bolted on there it looked really clean

ok, i used the space for a speaker in the dash and added 2 more sets of 6.5's in eac door, i have a custom amp rack in the back running a Rockford Punch 360a2 and a Rockford Punch 550.2 the 360 running all my mids, and my 550 for my 2 JL Audio w6 12's in a custom ported box designed just for my subs. i have 2 layers of dynamat all around, an Alpine CDA-i think its a 7862 lol i havent looked in a long time, full neon blue underglow kit inside my truck, switch center located on my center console to remote turn on my amps,lights, and soon LIGHT BAR. soon to remove all panels and have painted black in the back, black seats with JL AUDIO badge on front head rests and AHEAD OF THE CURVE across the back seat in white embossed lettering. removed my 6x9's out of the rear becuase its ruinging the sound waves coming up front (i know my car audio guys) so i have a built high end around the dash and doors and subs in the back, im running 2 gauge stinger high performance wiring with a Digital Stinger Distrobution block. this summer im ripping my carpet out to have my truck lined so no more vaccuming YAY. now to go to the outside of my truck for my next project, til then peace out.

IF you get a large enough box for the back, then mount the amp on to the box. Keeps it out of the way and from getting damged. My friend had a sweet setup in his jeep. He used like a trailer connector to run power and stuff to the box. With the other side of the trailer connectore mounted in the box. Then if for some reason he wanted to pull his setup he just pulled the rca cables out of the amp and unplugged the trailer connector and yanked it out. This is good if you think sometimes you might want the bedspace or to protect them from off roading trips. Just a thought

like others said, if your gonna have a box back there, mount the amp on it, as for the rear 6x9s this is what i did. i left a dummy pair of blown speakers in the rear when i herculined it. when the herculiner hardened, i cut out the shape of the 6x9 and made it a custom mount.

im currently running 6x9s front and rear powered by a ///Alpine 90x4, and i have a kicker solox 12" sub powered by a kicker 2500.1, with a 5 farad cap and a ///Alpine deck.

JBL everything, and amp mounted to box. no problems. need new subs my hammer fell out and it punctured the cone. going to invest in grilles this time,

If you run a set of big Ground Hawgs or Super Swampers you don't need the radio at all, the tires like to sing at any spped over 10-15mph.

Our Bronco came with an amp bolted to the inside of the rear quarter panel and a pair of 12" woofers each sitting in its own box, but connected to each other by a bracket or something. The guy who installed it attached a short grounding cable to the bracket that the back seat locks into, in such a way that the darn things were in the way if I wanted to carry any cargo with the seat down.

Between the drone of the tires on the highway, and those base speakers thumping, I used to feel stressed. I was happy to pull those speakers out when I needed the room.

I threw a pair of fluffy bed comforters in the back and they absorbed some of the drone of the tires.

I am trying to save my low range hearing for my old age.

My 84 Bronco had 6-1/2" TWO-WAY SPEAKERS MOUNTED IN THE DOORS, AND 7X10'S MOUNTED IN THE REAR BY THE BENCH SEAT in the factory locations. All JBL, with an amp mounted under the driver's seat. HAd a few problems with this set-up. Mainly, the power wire to the amp ran from the battery,thru the firewall on the passenger side, then across the floor under the carpet to the equalizer in the center console. The hot wire under the carpet shorted out from foot traffic and welded to the floor wher it arced, burnign the carpet. Plus the wires from the EQ to the amp and to the speakers were constantly getting pinched under the seats. I pulled all this stuff out when I Herculined the floor and bedsides, and pulled all the stereo parts out for one reason: theft deterence. You can mount an amp on top of a sub box in the rear cargo area, and have a removeable face head unit, but some punk is going to try to rip it off in my area. IF I had any kind of stereo system in the Bronco, it would be some cheapie marine speakers that could handle the weather. I also pulled out the alarm system, which didn't stop those punks from breaking into the Bronco a few times and destroying the center radio bezel. The bezel itself is a hard to find item even at a junkyard, JSM84

Why not go with some marine speakers? They're pretty durable and come in all shapes and sizes I think. Other than that, mount an amp in the overhead, I had seen a blazer like that one time.
