my truck seems to be taking longer and longer to start. a while back it would only take one try, then a few more. now i'm up to like 10 or 15 trys which usually takes me to killing the battery. i feel like its that the battery doesent have enough charge to actually start the truck even though it sounds like its turning over strong at first. exept the battery isent that old. should i really trust the guy at advanced to test the battery and altenator or are they just going to tell me they are both bad to sell me new stuff. i hope i explained all that right haha... its been a lonnnnng day.

oh i forgot to mention that the reason i'm leaning toward battery/altenator is because as soon as i put the charger on it the truck pretty much starts first try.

well it sounds like you might as well just replace the battery. its better to spend the 40 bucks than to **** your starter and solinoid. at least it'll rule out that as a problem. borrow a buddy's battery and test it in your truck.

IF you have to try repeatedly to start the truck and it seems to be turning over quickly at first, but is slowing down as you go, I would suspect something else is wrong... when was the last time you replaced the spark plugs or gave the old girl a complete tune-up?? Replaced the fuel filter and air filter? Plug wires and rotor? etc...

everything besides the fuel filter was replaced in the last month or so. the fuel filter will be done by the end of today.

The fuel filter is a good idea but have you checked thebattery cables? The truck can crank fine at first but then start to fade if the cables are corroded. The corrosion makes it so the voltage doesn't carry itself to the starter at full strength. That is what was wrong with my '95.

That is an interesting observation. Considering that your battery is fairly new, and I assume that your charging system is functioning, or you would have mentioned that your "alt light" was on. But what doesn't make sense is that you stated that it turns quickly at first. So.. if initially the battery is turning the truck over quickly, but it doesn't start, you must look elsewhere.

Hard starting could be as simple as a vacuum leak.

Check for vacuum leaks, and then Try pulling codes.. see where that leads you.

who ever had the truck before me did alot of changes to it and as a result most of my dash including the gages and warning lights dont work. i hadnt worried about that so far because its just a weekend beach truck not a daily driver. i did change the fuel filter today and so far its starting first try. i've only tried it once or twice though. i am going to try to pull the codes soon just to be informed. as for the coroded cables. they dont look that bad i mean they are kinda mushed from someone trying to beat them on because they didnt have the right wrench i'm assuming, but they arent really coroded.

Here are a bunch of grounds that you may want to work your way through. They are not specific for your year truck, but I'd bet that are pretty similar. Cleaning them, may get your guages etc. working.

Here is a list of grounds for a '92 - '96 bronc

I took a look in my Haynes manual.

They list 10 separate grounds... A-J.

A. Starter mounting bolt

B. Right front of Engine compartment near the battery

C. Lower left front of engine

D. Right front of engine compartment on upper radiator support.

E. Left front of engine compartment Upper radiator support

F. Bottom of cowl panel

G. Rear of left fender apron

H. Behind bottom of right cowl panel

I. Left rear corner of cargo area near rear lamp assembly

J. Under center rear of vehicle on rear cross member.
