i'm a noob, and was wondering if anybody has had problems with there bronco's stalling while driving. last night it happened and it's the second time this has happened. Each time i'd have to let it sit for 5 min. or more and then it'd start back up. Anything common associated with these symptons? Bad fuel filter maybe? Bad carb? I'm kinda clueless when it comes to these vehicles. Please help! @-)

Do you have a Duraspark II ignition system? If so, that is the symptom of the pickup in the distributor failing.

Good luck,

Of course it could be alot of things, but on my '73,I had a problem like that that would leave me stranded for five minutes or five hours ,drove me crazy. It was the wire going from the solenoid to the coil. The wiring was so old it was cracking, and the wire that rests on the solenoid had broken off ,and you couldnt see it ,it would move on and off until I finally figured it out.Apparently when it moved power was intantlky lost ,no spark, then it would make contact ..

Good luck.

Does the engine still turn over durring this 5 minute wait? If so, I'd say its wiring. Most likely its a ground or a wire that can't handle the amps. I had a simular problem, engine would cut out at night only driving down the road. Found out it was a loose battery cable on the ground side to frame. Every good bump would loose power. Check all connections, clean them and tigten down good.

i am currently having similar problems with my 78 my brother-in-law says try replacing the hard fuel line to the carb from the pump with rubber fuel hose... he says that alot of older v-8s run hotter and they will kind of vapor lock themselves because the heat off the block causes pressure in the line.... i am also gonna try a new fuel pump and flush the whole thing fuel and cooling systems [-o< hope something helps

Heat seems to be the culprit. A local performance shop sold me a stone type filter with the new Barry Grant I purchased for my '75. Soon after I started gettin the stall after 10 min. run time. Hot motor made for a hot filter then no fuel got through...threw it away and went for a paper filter....runs great now.
