Has anyone used Royal Purple before? its suposed to be some bad ass oil that lasts unreal amounts of miles. I heard 50K between oil changes. :)) Seems crazy to me but this guy I was talking to was just raving about it. Said it even makes the engine run better. Perhaps, but I want to hear back from anyone that knows about it before I try it.

I run the engineering department for a turbomachinery manufacturer, and I've done some pretty extensive testing on industrial applications of Royal Purple products - that's why I use them in my Bronco!

We had major problems with gearbox / pto drives on some of our irrigation pumps severely overheating. I ran a controlled test on one of these gearboxes using a conventional gear oil followed by a Royal Purple gear oil. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I recall the stable operating temperature dropping by about 50

I just looked, and they have some nice links to product tests and reports.  Sounds interexting but EXPENSIVE.  Cheapest price I found was nearly 6 bucks a quart.

I fixed a Montana truck run 2 winters & summers on Amsoil. The guy drove 1 mile to work. the moisture from the cold turned the oil in the motor into a giant jello mold of brown shi*. Burned up the rockers, cam & lifters. Engine sounded like a thrashing machine {300 6}Maybe the stuff works but not in a cold climate where the motor never gets warmed up and the oil dryed out

I'd like to know more about this. What type did you use for the pump? Can it be used on a power steerign application on a vehicle? Mine always overheats. It would be nice to add a better **** to cool instead of a remote cooler.

RP is a great oil, a guy in my car club uses it and says it is great. If you think about it synthetic oil is about $5 bucks per quart so $1 dollar more isn't that bad fo a deal when your vehicle runs better. 50,000 miles is wrong. You have to change every 3,000 miles as your car guide reccomends. Here in Pensacola, Fl the performance shop sells it buy the case which is six quarts fro $30 and you have one left for next oil change. Check around you might be able to get a different price from a different store. I use synthetic and have seriously thought about changing in the next go round.
