I have a 74 bronco that I recently replaced the starter, starter selinoid, voltage regulator, plugs, wires, rotor, cap, points, condenser, battery.....it started on the first try before I replaced everything.... now on the other hand it seems hard when turning over the engine? after a few trys it starts and runs fine but after warming up same problem occurs after I shut her off...I also put a timing light on her and it's good........any ideas?

I'd start by rechecking the point gap & dwell. Have you done anything w/the carb ?
nothing done to the carb except some carb cleaner to make sure. I will double check the gap and see. seems like the engine itself is harder to turn over though. almost like the starter has more resistance than it did before.

I'm sorry I am not clear on the sequence of events.

Please put these in order for me.

1. you replaced starter components (replaced the starter, starter selinoid, voltage regulator)

2. you gave it a tuneup (plugs, wires, rotor, cap, points, condenser)

3. replaced the battery

You said"it started on the first try before I replaced everything" (please define what parts you mean when you say everything)

You said... "it seems hard when turning over the engine" Do you mean that it is cranking slowly? or do you mean something else?

You see... I am trying to help determine if it is in the starter circuit, or due to the tuneup.

When the starter gets hot, it does have a little more resistance.

Did you replace the battery with one with the same amperage as the one you pulled out?

You also may want to recheck your cable connections (including the ground to the block) to make sure they are clean and tight.

The truck started fine before I replaced all of the above parts as I was trying to clean her up a bit. Now that all parts have been installed the truck cranks slowly the first couple of times then it will fire up.

It sounds to me like you are not getting enough amperage to the starter.

Check your cables.

Well, if that's ALL you've touched then it's somewhere in there. Best bet would be to do like the man suggested and go back, double check & clean every connection. I've seen a cross-threaded & therefor not-completely tightened down bolt do this before (even though it *felt* tight due to the cross-thread). But again, if the dwell & gap are off then the plugs will only be getting a fraction of the voltage they should. Hate to beat a dead horse but it's where *I'D* start anyways (especially seeing as those are the parts that were replaced).

All good suggestions...but I'm guessing the timing is off....Try bump'n the dizzy back a bit while somone else works the key-switch.

Also... could be yet another timing chain issue raising its ugly head. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
