ok after research and with the help of this forum i'm likng the look of the rough country kits. so being the scourer i am i found a better deal on them other than rough country themselves. same exact kit with free stabilizer except there is no nitro upgrade. which to me is negligible. hydro shocks will hold me over and when they go bad just replace. but anyhow the kit is a little cheaper. my question is do i need the sway bar drop bracket? anyone dealt with these guys?

I have not dealt with this company, but I did check the site and that seems like a great deal for a 6" lift. I say go for it. I thank I will be doing the same.

yeah thought so too. roughcountry.com is charging like $90 for the s&h. i'm going for a 4 inch kit myself though.

still wondering if i need the sway bar kit though. and dual stabilizer rather than the free single stabilizer.

yeah i'm not seeing the sway bar brackets in the kit description OR as an option at above link. i've emailed them to find out more. rough country does offer it as an add on option for the kit.

so i'm still confused a bit. steering stabilizer and sway bar brackets are 2 different animals right? so what is the difference between a single stabilizer and a dual?

they emailed back and thanked me. guess it was oversight on their part to exclude sway bar options. told me if i order within 30 days he'll give me sway bar brackets free. so the difference between their site and rough country themselves is $86. to me that is a large sum of money.

same exact rough country kit as they have over at the roughcountry.com site itself. only difference is roughcountry themselves charge almost $100 in shipping. and for pointing out their oversight at the other site they're giving me the sway bar brackets for free and s&h is around $50. total saved is $86.

for anyone else ordering this kit as opposed to ordering it through roughcountry.com- savings is $50 for exact same kit.

Which kit is better rough country or tuff country or are they both the same?

****** did you get the kit with the full set of rear leafs or the add a leafs? How much did the kit total come to at this new site you found?

I was lookin at the 4" tuff country lift here... any good or is it the same as the rough country?

tuff ocuntry i believe is a different corp. i decided on the 6 inch kit after all i think for the 6 inch it comes out to $100 less than the maufacturer themselves. it is the add a leaf system.

now i've been in close contact with the site and company owner over the last few weeks. i'll be ordering this weekend . i told the owner if the transaction went smooth i would recommend them to the forum. he also took my suggestions and may try to stock some soft tops hopefully at a slightly lower price. i think the site is fairly new.

anyhow, he has answered evey question i have thrown at him quickly and politely. so when i mentionedd dropping his name at the forum he said he would give me a code word so anyone here ordering and using that code word would get some type of discount.

right now i'm waiting to order then see how it flows. i'll report back and there may be some discounts available to forum members here.

I am interested... let me know if anything develops on some deals!

Do you have a preference in kits (tuff or rough country)?

Are the hecklethorn shocks anything good or should i look into another shock?

i'm going to go with the shocks that come with the rough country kit. the kit itself has favorable reviews here (or the company rough country). shocks i'm sure are adequate and will just get replaced when they wear out.

i'll keep the board posted and let you know how it all goes with the site though. i have no affiliation with them but, if they would offer discounts to members to gain more popularity for their site. then i say go for it.

still waiting on the kit just ordered it should probably take around 7 business days to arrive. the owner has been very helpful the whole way through. seems like a good guy.

to me it's a great kit- better be i just dropped a big *** on it. for the 6 inch that is. got all the options including dual stabilizer, add a leafs etc. except didnt go for the shock upgrade to nitro. i'm sure the hydros are adequate for now and when they go i'll get some skyjackers to replace them with or something. i imagine for what i'm using it for they will last a good long while. now i'm looking into tires in the next couple weeks then it's time to install everything.

kit arrived. 7 days to the "T". everything is there. man 7 boxes and each one is pretty damn heavy. anyhow the site is a good one i think i saved $100 over ordering directly from rough country themselves.

anyway i HIGHLY recommend the site. the owner again totally bent over backwards to help me out. and mentioned a possible discount to board members here (i didn't forget about everyone- i talked the site up). anyhow if he goes with the discount he'll email me a code word for board members.

now i need to get those 35's and get ready to roll with the install. hoping to have this all done within say the next 4 weeks -depending on how hard the holidays hit me!

the cheap projects are over boys! onto the expensive stuff! :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

******* good luck with the lift kit install, and keep us posted on how it goes, add some pics, maybe do a tech article. IF you need some pics of my recent install of a 4" RC lift, end me a PM and I'll give you the link to the pics. The instructions are clear and easy to read, so onyl problem should be stubborn, factory bolts. Soak them with PB or penetrating oil for a week ahead of the install. ALso, glad the new vendor worked out for you and saved you money. I'll check them out and see what they have to offer, JSM84

P.S.: You do need a drop bracket for the front anti-sway bar, if you decide to keep it. Adding a lift will put both the front and rear bars in a bind without dropping or extending them. Since there's no brackets to drop the rear, you either have to remove it altogether or extend the end links. I removed both sway bars on my 84 Bronco after the 6" lift, and noticed no difference than before with them on. In most cases, a suspension lift gives you a better-than-stock ride, and the larger, wider tires add to the stability. I also did not run steering stabilizers/dampeners, but a single should be fine for up to 35" tires. IF you have any kind of steering issues after the lift, check the frontend parts and steering shaft for signs of wear. Find a shop that gives you a lifetime alignment, but knows how to align the Ford TTB front axle.

thanks i'll definitely post info and pics. i want to do the install but my workload right now is incredible so i may have to hire it out. which sucks but, oh well. we'll see though that could change.

so remove the rear sway bar huh? but i can keep the front?

i went for the 6 inch lift. got the front sway bar drop, dual stabilizer, add a leaf, all 6 shocks, pitman, brake hoses etc. only parts i couldnt swing were the extended radius arms. but, i think in my case i'll be ok. this is for street and trail driving. when i say trail i mean-like previously mentoned- i like to take my mountain bike out to trails here in the mountains and i like to bird hunt. i want my bronco to pretty much be able to go where i want it to. obviously we're not talking rock crawling necessarily but you know what i mean.

the site is good. relatively new but the service was great speak to ron.

i'l keep you guys all posted.

You can try re-istalling the stock rear sway bar after the lift, but it's going to be in a terrific bind. It won't be level, and the bushings will not last very long. The only reason I would keep it and extend the end links is if you weree going to tow a trailer with the Bronco. But removing it and the front will allow for more suspension travel or flex, as the anti-sway bars limit you there. You can run a while with the front and then without, and decide for yourself whether you need it or not. You could also go to the trouble of adding some quick-disconnects to the front sway bar.

If you do decide to have a shop install the lift for you, do not pay more than $600 for the labor. Typical charge around here is $425-$450 for the suspension lift kit install. JSM84

thanks for the tips. but just to reconfirm. i can keep the front sway and i can lose the rear? i don't really seemy self towing but that could change i suppose.

as far as labor best quote i've gotten out here is $600. and around $225 for alignment and tire mountng. being from texas myself i know the price shift for things out here- seems about right for so cal. i'm going to get another quote this weekend from another shop that said they'll beat it. my boss has me running ragged right now as we prepare to launch a new site. definitely cutting into my free time. and then with the holidays...

so that brings me to alignment. think i'm going with the mickey thompson baja claw radials. probably from 4WP- they seem to have the best price on them. where do they offer a lifetime alignment? 4WP maybe? or another national place you could recommend?

thanks again for all the help. i'm totally stoked about the lift. now i'm in the expensive area of the project i have to admit i felt like i fell into a rut. before i was getting all kinds of little things and literally doing 2 or 3 things a week. now i have to wait because of the sheer price of each project and i felt like i was just sitting on my ass doing nothing. well, let me tell you- seeing those 7 boxes of lift on my doorstep got the juices flowing again.

i'm sure like most of us here i spend almost every spare penny after bills on my truck. my friends and girlfriend think i'm a loon. my co-workers are out bar hopping every night and cant figure out why i don't go. or they order out for lunch every day and always look puzzled when i eat a brown bagger. then again they all drive pieces of s***. maybe i'm getting old but, when i figure $50 a week on lunches and a couple hundred a week on bar hoopping- man thats a bunch of parts for my truck!
