I was thinking about getting a 4" lift kit. If i did purchase 35's and didnt regear would that be bad? The vehicle would mainly be used for around town and on the highway occassionally.

You will notice a severe loss in power. If you don't mind that you could drive it like that until it drives you crazy, then you will be willing to pay any price to have it regeared.

hahah the cost of regearing is high high high i just got done doin the same thing and man i took the easy way out i did it myself i put some 4.88 on and MaN do you feel like you got 100 more horse power i thoink it even helps on the gas ... i had 35 inch pro comp all terrieans and some tsls and compared to the stock 3.55 everytime i hit the gas it took forever to get up to speed even when i was in the mudd holes and just goosed it it took forever to get the responce but these 4.88 are kick A$$ ... i would deffinatly get someone who knows what they are doin if you ever try to do it yourself atleast get them to watch over you there is alot more to it than just buying the gear takin it apart and putting the new one in its alot of adjusting and perfecting believe me its worth it thought i started on friday and didnt get done till sunday afternoon and smeeled to high heaven but yeah deffiantly regear if your wanting to feel some horse power

Since I dont plan on re-gearing my truck anytime soon, should i not be considering 35's (does it make any difference that i have a 351). I would like to get them because they fill the gaps nicely on a 4" LIFT (and they look good). Would driving around with 35's on stock gears damage my truck?

I can see it being ******* the tranny if you floor it all the time trying to make up for the lost power. If you use your head and drive nicely it should be fine. But mine has 33's with stock gears and I am sick of the lack of power. I can do 80kmh in low range for F#$k sake.

Good point, i am driving mostly in town and occasionally doing some road trips . I'm dont 4 wheel often and for my use i don't need a whole lot of power for how i use the truck. So if take it easy and use my head i can add 35's without re-gearing? I can always get 35's and down size to 33's if worse came to worse!

a 351 on 35's will do just fine, it will be a little more sluggish than your used to but it will still drive good, i had a stock 302 and ran 38's before i did my gears, and it still spun the tires, once you regear youll love it, but for now you will be fine

well its def not an easy job unless u kno what u r doing, in the rear rear you need a whole gear set and sims/spacers and whatnot, as for the front you will need a new carrier as well as gears and shims etc, y advise is to pay someone to do it, they will have all the correct tools and knowledge....good luck

ive never seen a 4 inch body lift or even know if its legal but if ur serious about puttin 35s on a hitin the trails, for sure do a suspention lift. Im not geard right now and im running 35s and u can deffinatley feel the loss of power and cant wait till next summer for some gears.

yes i agree, if your gonna be wheeling alot id say do a suspension lift too, the stock suspension will work okay offroad, but a lift is def the way to go, much better for offroad

i drove with 35 for like 2 years and it did fine i had 35 inch procomp and when i went muddin i went to a 36 inch tsl sx so nah youll be fine just weak power

you need gears that are higher than a 3.55 and youll need on for the front and the back and you will need to make them THE SAME dont think it will be better to have the front movein faster than the back if thet dont match they will tear out your transfer case and so on and yes it is hard and will take you a couple of days to do.... i had a trained professional with me when i did

Labor for a gear swap is normally about $500 for both axles, plus another $500 for parts. I spent about $600 for new 4.56 ring & pinion gears, a minispool for the rear 9", a full spool for the front D44, and the master install kits. That was before swapping to 1-ton axles. IF you do more street driving and select a locekr or limited slip, expect to pay $1500 to re-gear both axles. I also highly advise getting a shop to do the gear install, as the settings are critical. All I did was remove and install the pumkins, but had a pro do the gears. JSM84
