Good afternoon all, I'm new to this forum and have a question. I desperately need a new radiator for my '75 and was wondering about others experiences with a 351W, Auto transmission. On the highway, the stock radiator is fine, but it is getting entirely to hot on trails even with an electric fan. I am considering an aluminum from JBG or their HD 4-core, obviously I am leaning toward the 4-core due to price, but does anyone know if these will clear the flex fan, or does anyone have any other suggestions? Also, I saw a post by Broncoholics concerning aftermarket radiators, how did your purchase work out? Thanks in advance, Matt

I have a 351W that I recently converted to electric fan. It never gets above 1/3 scale even on the hot days. I have a Heavy duty radiator that is for a truck with A/C, which I don't have. The electric fan is from a Lincoln Mark VIII with a 4.6L engine, it pulls serious air, 4500CFM. In my research prior to installing the fan I found that a lot of people have hot running engines with the aftermarket fans that are for sale on most sites, most only pull 2000 - 2500 CFM. Ford Muscle magazine suggested the Lincoln fan for it's high volume air flow.

I believe the reason your fan seems to be OK on the highway is that it isn't even comming on, atleast mine doesn't above 35 MPH even on days in the high 90's. When mine does operate it is in slow moving conditions such a s slow traffic, stopped at lights, etc. Slow moving operation is when your water pump is pushing the least volume of water and when you need real serious air flow from a high CFM fan. You might also want to add a boost pump for the water flow.

So I'm suggesting, if you haven't already done so, upgrade your radiator to a HD radiator, and get a higher CFM fan. Check this article from Ford Muscle http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2003/02...icfan/index.php
