Maybe he's buying a BroncoII ? That would probably fit.
Believe it or not a 76' MG Midget WILL fit back there (at least it will in a 78/79). The front tires sit *right* in that gap between the body & tailgate (you have to put it in a$$ backwards but it fits) so there isn't too much weight put on the steel tailgate cables. Back in 87' or 88' I had a friend with one & we ferried it up to the beach (Hampton Beach, NH) in the back of my 78' with the rear seat removed. We backed the Bronco up to a retaining wall & then set a bunch of cinder blocks under the tailgate & pushed the MG across the lawn, over the wall and into the back of the Bronco. We had about 4.5" on either side but the cool part was that the front tires *didn't* sit on the tailgate. We made ramps using two 2x8's screwed together and tossed them in on either side of the Midget. Stapled a couple red flags to the ramps because they stuck out so far & took his little convertable up to the beach to scam babes for the wkend (it never would have made the trip on it's own, poor little thing). Of course it didn't take us long to figure out that an MG Midget wouldn't really fit him, me AND two chicks, but we hadn't given that a lot of thought before embarking on the endeavor. Ahhhh, the things you do when you're 20 <grin>. Next time around we discovered that the girls who were good-to-go actually liked the whole ******* Bronco thing better, and who doesn't like being ******* ? Being a pair of 20yr old guys we *really* liked the whole ******* thing too so it really worked out well for everyone.
