so i am working on an '86 bronco that i am going to trade my '88 for. its got swampers, a 302 with 40k miles on it, a 4 speed, and a soft top, heres a pic below, but thats not the point.

it kept over heating so i went ahead and took alot of shit out of there so i could just replace the water pump and figured i would go ahead and replace the thermostat at the same time. my question is, when i am putting those things back on, i do i need to put any coolant into the block, or do i just put it all into the radiator and let it work its way through?

No. Just fill up the radiator after everything else is done, The water pump will push the water through the engine. Keep filling until it will not take anymore water. Let the engine run until there are no more bubbles when looking in the radiator. Could take 1/2 hour or more. Keep filling as required. When no more bubbles are present for at least 2 or 3 minutes then you are done and can put the cap back on. I'd then let the truck run for a while to let the pressure build up, and check for leaks. I must say there is a good chance something is wrong with your rad if its overheating badly so dont be surprised if it still overheats.

mine used to over heat alot but it was from an external leak. you just might want to check your fan clutch too. make sure it's working poperly.
