I have an 89 Bronco 5.0L with an automatic transmission and I have always noticed a rare vibrating noise in my accelerator. Until recently, the problem was never a big deal, occurring maybe once a month (and thats being generous). In the last month, however, I have noticed the problem occurring more and more until now it occurs every time I drive. I finally took the truck into my local Ford Dealership and the found that the problem was with the "Pedal Assembly." They could not resolve the problem as Ford no longer makes the part(s). Other than "the pedal assembly" the dealership really hasn't been specific, nor were they able to give me a former part number as the part has been discontinued. I personally am not very automotively inclined, so for all intents and purposes I am lost. I'm sure there is some aftermarket company out there that still makes the part, however I'm not really too sure what I'm looking for. If anyone has any information on a pedal assembly for an 89 Bronco 5 liter with an automatic tranny, I would appreciate it.

Well, it's called an "assembly" because it's more than just a single part. I just took a look at the one on my 88" which is has *got* to be identical to yours and it's a fairly simple arrangement. There are 3 main parts to it. You have the pedal itself which of course has the rubber pedal cover and is attached with a pin to the pedal arm. The pedal arm is in turn connected with another pin to the pedal bracket and the bracket is then secured to the firewall with 3 bolts & large fender washers. The pins are pretty self-explanatory and they allow each part to piviot. The bottom of the pedal arm is where the pedal itself is attached and the top has a notch in it for the accelerator cable and it's connected in the middle to the bracket.

Why in the world yours is causing vibrations is, quite frankly, beyond me. The only thing that it could possibly be is a bad pivot pin. I'm assuming here that the dealership did a reasonable job diagnosing the problem (even if they fell flat on their faces as far as explaining it to you went) so the vibration isn't being *caused* by something else and just being transmitted to the pedal thru the firewall or accelerator cable. I'm sure that rather than selling the individual pieces it's sold as an "assembly" which is pretty much the pedal, pedal-arm, bracket & pins (and maybe a new pedal cover) all put together & ready to bolt on. I'd contact a local junkard for a replacement. The same pedal assembly was in literally *millions* of F-trucks and Broncos so it's not like anyone will have trouble locating one (probably why they obsoleted the part #) and if for some bizarre reason you can't find one, someone who specializes in Bronco parts like Jeff's Bronco Graveyard will have one. I've never had to price one but I really can't imagine it costing more than $25 or so, probably $15 if you pull it yourself and that should be easy enough, just bring a ratchet, a 3/8" or 7/16" socket (argh, probably something metric like a 7 or 8 instead) & some needlenose. Remove the accelerator cable from the top of the pedal arm and then pull the 3 bolts holding it to the firewall and Voila' you're holding a pedal assembly in your hand. Once you've removed one from a donor truck reinstalling it in your own will be easy.
