Alright, I feel like an idiot. I cannot figure out where the hose that comes off the pcv valve plugs. I just about have everything together, but the pcv valve is stuck in the passenger side valve cover with a short piece of hose coming off it, and I can't find where it plugs into...although I'm pretty sure it plugs somewhere on the upper intake...I just can't find where. Anybody have a pic or description?

mine was almost directly over the pcv valve itself. its in one of those spots where youll more than likely just have to feel for it, youll not get a visual on it without a mirror.

yo,

"REROUTE THAT PVC SYSTEM (Vacuum Supply Hose)"

Problem:

Failure of the #8 piston or the #8 rod or rod bearing in Ford 5.0L, V-8 gas engines

Applications affected have been in 1987-1993 pick-up trucks and vans. After discussing the situation with several installers, the problem has been narrowed down to the PCV system.

Solution:

During engine installation, reroute the PCV valve vacuum supply hose. Follow these steps:

Plug the 3/8" (pipe) thread hole in the rear of the plenum where the PCV valve hose is connected.

Drill and tap a 3/8" pipe thread hole in the center of the plenum and thread the PCV connector into it.

Reconnect the PCV valve vacuum supply hose to the new location.

Be sure the drain hole in the baffle is open. The baffle is under the PCV location in the valve cover.

Installers who have rerouted the PCV system and opened the baffle drain hole have not reported any #8 cylinder failures."

I've got close to 180,000 miles on this 5.0, and haven't had any problems with the 5 or 8 cylinder. Do you really think this is necessary? Thanks!

yo man!

you're prob. ok with what you have now.

I never did find a TSB by Ford on this; or a recall.

There is a long thread on this at another Bronco Forum where some have done the job and others added stuff to the job; Link is in my site under Emissions; Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) . Am away from home/work now, so I time now to get the Link for you

I'll find it, Al. I use your site a LOT, especially here lately. Thank you for the great site and information...between you, Fred and everybody else on here, I know I can find the answer to just about anything. I'm not going to reroute that pcv...if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Thanks again.

Shoot, he probably has access to better beer there than I do here...Oklahoma, only 3.2, unless you buy imports at the liquor store. So, check this out, new problem... well, actually, same problem, just a different twist on the story...

Okay, so, everybody probably knows by now that I had to pull the upper intake to replace the injector wire harness because rats had nested on the top of the engine and chewed basically all wiring. Now, I've got a new engine dweller...and though it's not chewing up wires (yet) I don't really want it nesting ANYWHERE on or around my Bronco. Get this, it's a snake. What on God's green earth is causing all these critters to nest in my engine well? Any ideas on how to keep them out? Traps or poison are out of the question because I have many dogs. I'd love to know if anybody else has had these problems...or if they have been reserved especially for me. Later.

Oh buddy...well, I know why the snakes are going up into my engine well. This evening I went out to fix some stripped threads on the throttle body...and when I opened the hood, the largest freakin rat I've ever seen was staring at me. He was just sitting there on the fan shroud, looking at me like "what do you want." Anyway, I ran him and his children out of there... I live on a ranch, so, field mice and rats are abundant...but, why they can't find somewhere else to live is beyond me. I need to get creative in coming up with a solution for this. I've considered tying a hungry, wild cat to the axle...

I use powdered cayenne pepper and dust it on harnesses, etc. to keep squirrels from nesting overnight; they like the taste of insulation in da morning...can also mix it in hot water (to mix) in a spray bottle and spray it on frame, etc. Maybe after a few sniffs, they'll find another place.

I'll give it a shot Al. I went out there this evening, and that sucker was back...staring right at me with those beady eyes. He runs faster than I can swing a stick. I cleaned out the nest, again. Thanks.

WOOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

My baby is back up and running....and boy is she running strong! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO thankful to all for the help...Al, Fred, everybody. That new EGR valve seems to have helped a bunch too. Of course, having all injectors firing also makes it run smooth too...who'd of thunk that? Thanks again.
