Just wondering if anybody has done an overdrive on a EB with a standard. The price of gas @ 2.39 a gallon I need all the help I can get with this project. I looked at a 5 speed from a '90 f-150 and it was 50" from bellhosing to the end of the transfer case. Thanks

This has been done many times. You can do a NV4500 swap with the original 3 speed. You can get a complete kit through Wild Horses, Jeff's Bronco Graveyard and some others. These larger suppliers also have great tech support.

You can also do a ZF 5 speed swap which I will be doing soon once I get the time. BC Broncos will supply you with the parts and knowledge needed for this. Hope that helps.

Or another option, that won't involve driveline shortening/ lengthening,

is the NV 3550 swap. (TJ and KJ trans) 4:1 first and an overdrive.

I am just waiting for my backordered t/case adaptor and I will be doing this swap in my dd.

take a peek at advance adaptors on-line catalog for your options.

(this was the swap that Stacey did to Crazy Horse on trucks...)

Thanks for your replies. But now I need to know what trucks these trannies are from. Also how do I find out what transfercase I got?

All Early Broncos have a Dana 20 transfercase as factory equipment. Unless a p.o. has modded your truck, this is what you will have.

As far as what truck the trannies come from, we need to know which trans you are thinking of using...

Thanks for helping me figure this out STLKIKN. The NV3550 sounds good only because of no drive shaft mods. When I got this bronco the guy said that it was a '69 Bronco "Baja". It has a dana 60 rear end and a dana 44 front end, with a spencer geardrive transfercase. This frontend looks alot heavyer than the one that was in my other '70 bronco that I had. This one has had another 302 put in the enginebay, just the motor mounts are tight. NO nothing else, wireing, exhaust, hoses, radiator, flywheel, no nothing! It is going to be my toy to drive to work, and to play now and then. A total ground up redo. Thanks
