Do you guys knopw what the original gears are in a 90 XLT? And does any body know where I can get some steeper ones for cheap? My bronco is gutless as it is, gears would make a huge difference. Thanks guys

You can look to see if the axles still have the factory tags, that will tell you what gears & differential are installed. If those are missing then the door tag will be the next place to look. Gears are a fairly large investment so I'd be REAL sure you want to do it before you run off and buy yourself a pair (you have to do both axles as a pair unless you plan to forget about the 4WD part of the whole thing). You have an 18yr old truck, are you sure that it maybe isn't a tired engine or tranny ? You'll spend about as much $$ changing both gearsets as you will swapping engines, just something to think about.

Right, get the axle code off the door tag or the metal tag on the differential. A code of 19 would indicate 18 = 3.08, 19 = 3.55, etc., if it is H instead of a 1 then it is a limited slip differential. what size tires are on it? Increasing tire size without re-gearing will make it a power DOG. Increasing to 33 will slow it down off the line and anything above that will definitely show up in the low end.

Good luck,

:)>-

Its got 33x12.5 on it now. I just bought it about a months ago now, and the people I bought it from said the engine was rebuilt about 30000 miles ago.......im not so sure I believe that. But even still it only has 85K on it. Im givin it a tune up of my own to see if I can get a little more power out of the engine. And come on now man, I know that I would have to change out the front and back..........Thats just common sense......Thanks for the help guys

You might think so wouldn't you, but you can't believe how many times people ask if they have to change the front and rear gears  You definitely start to feel the low end power loss with 33's and after that forget it.

Good luck,

:)>-
