 Well i found the fitting i needed to hook up my new mechical gauge down by the oil filter, and hooked up new factory sending unit for my oil pressure.but the factory gauge says ,well it shows right in the middle, and mechical gauge says 17-20 psi at idle.I think there is more mileage left in this motor ,it only got 134,000 on it.

Yep, lots of life left in it.

These 351M/400 engines will run forever with 5# or less at idle.

Oh that's good oil pressure at idle, your bearings are in *good* shape.

Gotta second the 351/400 comment. Before I got better at these things I ran my first 78 so low on oil that I can remember at least 3 times checking it and only finding a whipped up foam on the dipstick (whoops). I'd put in 5 qts or so and go back to beating it. That engine was still running when I pulled it to install the 460, I gave it to a friend who rebuilt it & installed it in an early 80's 2WD F100. He put a Holley ProJection throttlebody on it and ran it for at *least* 10yrs before I moved away & lost track of him.

It's hard to beat an American V8.

I can also attest to the 351M running with low oil pressure, or no oil... Just fill it back up and it runs again. ALWAYS check the oil before starting, JSM84
