Is there anyone doing some desert racing. I stumbled across class3racing.com, and wow, that sounds like a blast!

I've seen similar stuff & you're right, it *looks* awfully fun. At the same time though I know that it's UNbelievably expensive. to run like that you're talking high-speed w/tons of suspension travel. That means a serious engine that can handle sustained hi-rev operation (we're talking dry-sump big $$$ stuff here) AND $hit like remote reservoir long-travel coil-over shocks ($400-$500 apiece) as well as some serious chassis & cage work. Now, having said that, I've often thought that if I lived closer to the Left Coast I'd like to look for a used buggy & run Baja (just the 100, my pockets aren't THAT deep). If you challenged it with the intention of simply finishing without regard to how high you placed it could really be a whole lot of fun. Plus you'd have the buggy to run with locally. Finding a used racer is probably the way to go, get something built 3-5 yrs ago, it will cost you a small fraction of what it would cost to build one new and it'll still be competetative (well, reasonably so anyways) and it'll be a WHOLE lot of fun. I've seen them as cheap as $3K WITH a tranny, axles & suspension. For something like that I'd go & grab 3 or 4 cheap but running junkyard engines. Do backyard rebuilds/upgrades on all of them and be prepared to burn thru 2 or 3 of them in a race. As finances allow build/buy better engines and get to the point where you're only burning 2 or 3 per *season*. Better still find a good rebuilder who also enjoys the sport and doesn't know what to do with his spare time, make him a partner & let him share the driving or swap out as driver/navigator. Lots of ways to do it if you're close enough to the events and have a real desire to play.

It seems to me that class-3 may not be that expensive, in the sense you can't have too many mods. The hardest part looks like caging the Bronco and some suspension mods. I guess I'm looking for something in Nv. that may be a affordable to the average joe. I know racing and cheap don't go togther, we raced our Mustang for years in Fallon. We never broke anything, and I raced the 351w for years! Luck I'm sure. B) Anyway, the pro class just sounds expensive, but do you know anything about other classes that may not cost as much to begin and maintain? Do I just ask folks if they need help with pit stuff? Chase truck with eqt.? etc.? Any input is appreciated.

PS Rod, i pm'ed you too. Thx!
