Okay...I am rebuilding my 1979 Bronco Custom to some what orginal, it is prob. 90 precent org. anyways, but, fixing u some loose ends and what not, new paint, the works...anyways, one problem I have had is that my wiring is crap. When I got the truck (only had 1 owner before me, and I know this is true as it is my father-in-law), anyways, the rear window goes down every once in a while and goes back up even less times. I know there is a short some where and just wanna replace the wiring, how big of a job is that, what type of wiring should I use (I mean, is there a specific brand name or company to go with for this type of wiring harness).. and, my radio only works once in a while and if I plug in my cig. lighter, blows everything, also, my dash lights don't work, go em working once when I hit a speed bump, then they went out...so, any help would be great, would love to get my baby going for so my wfe and I can hit the drive in movies with it this summer......thank you and have a great one

Well, rewiring the truck is about as big a job as you want to make it. I've done several. One way to do it is to buy 10 or 12 spools of wire and go at it. NOT a method I'd recommend, I've done it this way and it's a good way to give yourself a stroke. I've also used the kits from Painless wiring and Ron Francis Wireworks and those are SOOOOOO much better it's hard to describe. There are a number of wiring kits available, I mention these two because they're the ones I have personal experience with (I've done 1 truck with a Painless kit and 2 with Wireworks kits and one with just spools of wire) and if I have to do any more I'll use Wireworks. Other guys have different opinions but that's where you get into the whole ******** & elbows thing. Everybody has one but some are better looking than others.

hey buddy, i'm no genius but it sounds like a grounding issue. i have had similar problems with all 3 of my 78,79's and it's been a ground issue, or a pinched wire.

i have heard that if you take a magnetic compass and pass it along the wires your tracing the problem to, that the needle will ''flutter'' when you pass a break in the system?. i'm not sure if this is helpfull but i would look at the grounds in the system.

good luck!!

My 79 has several wiring issues as well. Good thing is, I have a 79 F150 that had the same motor and interior setup that I kepted the wiring off of, so I am currently in the process of replacing it. The only thing is, I cant find where the rear window switch was or is supposed to be. Also, would it be ok to just run new wire through a switch and a fuse to operate it?? Since Im fairly new to Broncs, any help would be great
