I'm picking up my first 4x4 next weekend. It's a 1985 Ford Bronco with a 351W copmpletly stock and full of rust. I want to do a few mods but do not want to go crazy as it will be mostly street due to lack of trails around here. The truck is mostly a winter beater but I really like it. I bought it for $400 and the only thing I can see wrong is an a** load of rust. My intent is to make it the sickest winter ride out of all my firends...(I always gotta be the best) LOL. My list of ideas looks like this for now;

Exhaust - Mean, itimidating, beefy tone if possible out of a 351W

Lift - Thinkin 3" body lift??

Wheels - nothing flashy

Tires - Something meaty but inexpensive, also looking for a street compound

Paint - After all the body work it'll need a single color to overlay the bondo and sheet metal all over the truck.

I'm thinkin flat black.

Grille Gaurd - Any ideas here for a cheap one?

I am not trying to spend too much because as I said this is mostly a winter ride. Any ideas you guys have would be very helpful.

No matter how ugly your truck is, get decent rims and some kickass meats and everyone will envy your ride. You can make a 351 sound pretty nasty, headers and dual exhaust. Tons of muffler choices - Bassani, Dynomax, Magnaflow, Flowtech Warlocks (my favourite). To name a few. Just don't get glasspacks, I have them on mine and I hate it, Sounds like a bunch of bumble bees in my exhausts, extremely obnoxious while driving uphills and such. But..... Sounds awesome in the mud.

I never said she was ugly...just a lil rough around the edges...LOL! As far as the wheels I've been looking at some american racing AR-767 in black but I'm not feelin the blue and red stripe. Tires, however, I have no idea. I would like something meaty but good on the street, and obviously good in the snow.

Oh yeah are there any sites that have car specific sound clips for exhausts? Or any forums that have them?

I tried that but no bronco and the F-150 doesnt have the same motor, but sounds good either way. What about H/X pipes? Are they worth it? I kinda want to do side exit before the rear wheels, I dunno if those pipes will allow for exit there or not. If not I will deal with rear exit, that is if the H/X pipes are worth buying.

I wouldn't bother with the h or the x pipe. Thats more so racing technology. I dont imagine you plan on taking your rig to the racetrack. They dont have the trucks but they have older 5.0 mustangs which will sound similar. A lot of people swear by the the H/X pipe but I kind of like the sound of the left bank fighting the right. That sounds more muscle car era to me and thats the sound I am going for with mine.

Here check out this link to this guys Bronco, sounds not too bad, nice and easy not too ronchy.

I wouldnt really classify it as racing technology, if anything I'd say it is street technology, it will help the engine run smoother and give you better scavenging ability and thus more power and efficiency.

For exhaust, wait for the muffler to begin to rot out and then you'll get a real mean sound. :))

I like American Racing wheels because they have an aggressive look, but still look nice when you clean them off.

Waiting for the exhaust to rot off would take a while the guy that had the truck redid the whole exhaust with stock piping.
